Been away from the Google+ for a little while. Life's been a bit crazy between trying to find a #UI or #UX design job I can do remotely in #Buffalo, NY, and trying get pre-approval on a home loan so we can buy a house! Hope to get things back on a more regular basis in the next two months. Wish me luck!

ps - if you need, or know anyone who needs help with the interface or interaction design of their app (mobile, web, or desktop), I'm available to collaborate. My rates are flexible and I love making new things the world hasn't seen yet! Message me through Google+ or view my work history & #portfolio on LinkedIn:

Finally started pouring casts again. Don't know what my problem was that kept me from it for the past month or so. No matter, I'm happy to say this won't be the last mold or cast.

Next, I'm thinking of doing a couple pieces, one original, and the other will likely be some custom MOTUC part, like a head or armor accessory, something a bit easier to keep the ball rolling.

Thanks! Yea, straight from the mold. I've snapped off some of the flash and the pour & vent spouts, but that's it. Came out pretty clean.

I seriously need to find a single project management solution that's; a) totally free, b) allows multiple projects, c) allows multiple users, d) ideally has a mobile counterpart or works well enough on a mobile device, e) is built around or at least can be coerced into supporting the agile development philosophy. Currently, I have too many single projects spread across various tools, since all the trials/ demos/ limited plans are crippled enough to prevent you from finding one that hits every point. It's incredibly annoying.

Here's a twitter discussion I had recently on this very subject. Since then, I have yet to find a fitting solution.
https://twitter.com/arloft/status/425074924441452544 I'm open to suggestions or discussion of possible solutions.

I am coming from the same place. I have been wanting to make designer toys ever since I first saw them. I will post whatever I make, and I am looking forward to more posts from you as well.

I'm still in the process of learning how to make successful molds and casts, but feel I'm getting closer. This little dinosaur is on his second cast attempt. There's a photo here that shows the first failed cast; a tiny piece came out of the mold, and a huge chunk hardened in the mixing bowl. And it was filled with air bubbles, whoops!

I just poured a second cast, and this one didn't overflow onto my desk like the first one, so I'm guessing that's a good sign! Now just waiting on the resin to set up enough for me to open the mold and see how it turned out.

I've been struggling with making successful molds of things I've sculpted and test items. A couple friends who have more experience than me gave me some good advice about how to correctly vent my molds.

While looking for information on whether or not I should degas silicone before pouring it into a mold, I found this video by easycomposites.co.uk that gives a really good explanation of the degassing process, what degassing is actually doing, and why you should do it. I found it really helpful.

How (and Why) to Vacuum Degas RTV Silicone Rubber and Casting Resins in a Degassing Chamber

I seriously need to move faster on building this game. What I would do for a couple days of uninterrupted development time.

While Construct2 isn't "code" in the traditional sense, it's still fairly complicated to get up an running. Some things that seem like common game action don't seem to be well explained, even in the events/actions used to make them happen are documented. Going to have to make progress by butchering existing .capx files to get the functionality I need, and retroactively learn as I go forward onto later projects.

I read through some of the docs pertaining to events, families, containers, instance variables, arrays, etc., and it's really close to just being straight JavaScript. That's probably a good thing once you're familiar with the way it all works and how to use what where and for what reason. But like learning to program by writing the actual code, it's all nonsense until it makes sense. I'm just hoping I can make it make sense to me sooner, rather than later. And I'm sure I'll lean on the forums a lot, at least throughout the entire period of this game's development. hopefully by the end, I can contribute more than I get.

Big New Update™ to my demo game, Ninjammer! Major update (v0.9.8.0) with new features and improved gameplay! W00t!

It's not beautiful or anything in it's current state, as it's to be a feature framework for an original game.

Play it! ~ http://aaronarlof.me/game

I've been learning how to make molds and then cast copies of things; it's something I've wanted to do for years. Despite some failures, I'm making good progress. If you're interested in molding & casting, custom toys (action figures like Maters of the Universe Classics, or other 5" and 6" lines), indie toys like Kid Robot style "urban vinyl", or short run art toys, consider following me here on G+, my Tumblr page (http://arloft.tumblr.com), or on Instagram:@arloft. I'm also on Twitter (@arloft), where I discuss making toys and other things.

New mold I'm working on. This mold is a test so I can get a better grasp on how to better design them. If it turns out well, and I can pull clean shots from it, I may do ashore run of this little mid-century Japanese ceramic dinosaur.

Anyone interested in a (beginner) collaborative programming project?
The goal is learning to code while working with other developers of varying skill levels, more so than building a sellable product.

It would be a remote collaboration and open source code, and we can discuss what language or project type to pursue once there is more than just me working on it. No deadlines, minimal (but encouraged) commitment. Not a startup or company plan, just people interested in learning to code, working together on one project, trying to learn from each other. Want to use an agile style for learning & development, basing tasks on user stories. If you're unfamiliar with agile methods, I can post links to some reading materials to get you familiar with the idea.

People local to #Chicago are ok too; more real life friends are always welcome!

Find me on Twitter, if you'd prefer, at @arloft.

+John Washabaugh I haven't had any bites on this idea except for you. So, here's what I'm (slowly) working on myself.

I have a game started using Construct 2 (http://scirra.com), which isn't "programming" in the traditional sense, but it does have things like instance and global variables, if/else, etc, it's just masked in a drag and drop style "event sheet". Check out the docs and tutorials on the site for more info there.

I also have a Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set (building robots from servos and sensors; program them with a version of LabView), and that's a pretty cool thing for starting out on hardware programming. When the included LabView based IDE feels too limiting, there are actual languages you can use instead (Robot C, and others). I also found something on GitHub that allows you to program the robot in Python and run a simulator, so you can see the results without physically having the robot.

I'm also interested in either C or Java for desktop programming, but I'm open to using something you're more comfortable or familiar with too. We can do a Git or GitHub repo to share code, or even just a Dropbox folder.

No pressure to participate, I just wanted to let you know where my head is with this idea.
