I'm sort of a retired English teacher, so I guess this applies to me...

Has the incongruity between spelling and pronunciation of some words ever happened to you? Adam suffered it...

Well, I'll try to post more often. The lessons are good (IMO) and the comics, when there is one, are funny (also IMO)

I don't normally quote stuff from other people, but today I recalled a poem I had enjoyed when I was a kid. I found it just now; maybe it puts things in perspective, eh?

GOING TO THE DOGS

My granddad, viewing earth's worn cogs,
Said things were going to the dogs;
His granddad in his house of logs,
Said things were going to the dogs;
His granddad in the Flemish bogs.
Said things were going to the dogs;
His granddad in his old skin togs,
Said things were going to the dogs;
There's one thing that I have to state –
The dogs have had a good long wait.

Everybody likes to hate the word "ain't," but really, English doesn't have a good word to replace it...

This one is cute, but I explain it for those of you who don't do much science. (heh. Correct me if I got it wrong.)

It's long, it's Greek, but we still know this word. Because it's fun!

Here's another little writing lesson, particularly for technical writing, such as in your comments when you code. I saw this error a lot in a recent job where the architects used XMLSpy a lot.
