Anyone have any good location ideas for nighttime photography?  I'd really like to find somewhere that is free from city lights but with open access.  Most of the parks close and lock around 8:30pm, so that is no good.  It would also be good if the location was relatively close to High Point/Greensboro, NC area.  Also, an open place free from close tree lines to get a more distant horizon.

I actually have set up to go to a ranch a friend of ours owns in Summerfield tonight.  It is about a 30 minute drive from home, and they say it is completely dark and wide-open.  Hoping the weather doesn't go sideways.

Creedmoor is about 1.5 - 2.0 hours from here.

It is interesting that you noted the time difference between -Filter and Select-Object.  It appears that you were gathering from the local machine.  I would be curious to see, and I might try later today, to see what the difference in time is when querying multiple machines across a network.
Dr. Scripto has been fielding a lot of calls from the Help Desk lately. They've been asking him to look up information about the local hard drives in various servers – mainly size and free space information. He doesn't mind helping, but all the requests have been getting in the way of his naps.

Thanks for your comment ! It's actually the difference between (Get-CimInstance -Filter ... -Property...) and (GetCimInstance -Filter | Select-Object -property).

I did another test this morning. Using the Property Parameter of Get-CimInstance is faster on localhost, but slower on Remote machine.

# ON LOCALHOST #
(Measure-Command {Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_logicaldisk -filter "DriveType = '3'" -Property DeviceID,Size,Freespace}).totalmilliseconds > 30.3139

(Measure-Command {Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_logicaldisk -filter "DriveType = '3'" | Select-Object -property DeviceID,Size,Freespace}).totalmilliseconds > 542.9056

-----

# On a REMOTE COMPUTER #
(Measure-Command {Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_logicaldisk -filter "DriveType = '3'" -Property DeviceID,Size,Freespace -computername SERVER01}).totalmilliseconds > 1659.8736

(Measure-Command {Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_logicaldisk -filter "DriveType = '3'" -computername SERVER01 | Select-Object -property DeviceID,Size,Freespace}).totalmilliseconds > 376.6548

I had a great experience with my recent purchase. On Wednesday, July 9, I drove into work thinking about the possibility of trading my 2002 Accord (also purchased from Crown Honda). I called to see if my previous salesperson was still there, but they had already moved up. Patrick Faber was responsive and efficient in getting the deal put together. Wednesday evening I had test-driven three models (A Civic and two Fits) and made the decision on a 2008 Fit. Thursday evening after work, I was able to drive by and sign the paperwork.
