Don't forget why you are running AdWords- to generate business. You need to know where your conversions are coming from so that you can focus your campaign on keywords that produce a return.

Google Adwords changes in 2014.
How much do you really know about about Google Adwords?
Talking to a colleague just the other day reminded me about Google advertising when it first started.
It was really simple to use back then but as time has gone by its now become a complete nite mare for everyone including skilled professionals.
So if you do Google Adwords and you aren’t making any return from your spend, here are some top tips to help you not waste as much money as you could do.

This is just a sample of issues you will run into. for an exhaustive list please register with us and we’ll send you a full checklist of things to look out for so you can make the most of your spend.
Here we go then..

Tip 1 first thing to do is link your webmasters tools and Google analytics to your Adwords account before you spend any money on advertising.

Tip 2 now add conversion tracking again before you spend any money on advertising.

Tip 3 if you have forms on your site that link to thank you pages after the form is filled add goals to the form page and to thank you page.

Tip 4 If you intend to advertise in the display network as well as the Google search network make sure you add re marketing to your product pages so you get better exposure to your targeted customers.

Tip 5 there is a section called shared library in the bottom left corner of your Adwords interface. Click on it. Navigate to keywords section and add keywords that you don’t want to be paying for that will waste your budget.

Tip 6 within each add group you can also see key words that have been searched and clicked on that have cost you money but will be unrelated to your content. Make sure you add these to your negative keyword lists at ad group level or if required campaign level.

Tip 7 Add quality score to the layout of your adwords account at ad group level so you can see how good eac key phrase is scoring.

Tip 8 pause any key words that have a quality score of 3 or less unless you can improve the quality score. Re evaluate these key phrases and decide how best to add them back if you want to.

Tip 9
Don’t trick yourself into thinking you can run a successful campaign without any knowledge, You Can’t !!

Tip 10
Read the manual, think about taking the Google Adwords basic course in how to use Adwords. With this under your belt you’ll at least understand how it all hangs together.

Tip 11
Be prepared for change. Google change the interface and specifications of Adwords regularly.

Tip 12
If you use the Google shopping channel beware this is undergoing lots of changes right now. The main thing to consider is that the bid price on the shopping channel was what drove people to use it, it was cheaper. Now the bid prices are going up as Google bring it into line with the traditional search results.

Tip 13 Remember that Google say they may overspend on your budget by up to 20% so think carefully about your budgets if you’re running a big account or if your small and taking a chance that it will work.

Tip 14 Check your account twice a day. Look at it, get to know it nurture it. This takes time. Time you may not have if you’re a busy professional.
