Centre for Future Health Early Career Fellowships

The Centre for Future Health (CFH) is making available up to four early career research fellowships from 1 October 2017 for a fixed term of two years. The scheme offers a salary in the range of £37,768 - £46,414 a year plus a generous support allowance of up to £100k. The opportunity is open to individuals with a PhD or equivalent qualification in the area of health from across the sciences, social sciences and the arts and humanities and those with interdisciplinary interests are especially encouraged to apply. Some degree of previous professional experience at another institution, academic or non-academic, will be looked on favourably. Those who have had a career break (because of family commitments, ill health or to take on work outside of research) and wish now to re-establish their research career are also invited to apply.

Candidates are required to seek the support of at least one academic mentor and the Head of Department of the department in which they would like to be based as part of the application process. If the applicant is currently at the University of York and wishes to stay in his/her current department, then (s)he will need to articulate how this proposal will further his/her independent research career.

Successful candidates will be expected to pursue an independent programme of innovative research and, within the time-frame of the Fellowship and with the support of an elected mentor(s), to apply for a prestigious externally-funded intermediate fellowship to continue their research career at the University. The position is open to non-EU applicants so long as they would be able to obtain the necessary VISA permissions to be in post by 1 October 2017. The degree of commitment and support, during the two years and going forward, offered by the host Department will also be taken into consideration. Exceptionally it may be possible to provide some additional funding to extend the contract for a third year depending on the progress of the individual and the support of the host department.

The vacancy will appear shortly on the HR website. If you have any queries then please contact the CFH Administrator, Philip Kerrigan, cfh@york.ac.uk

URGENT: Is your PhD funded by a Research Council?

Then PLEASE don't ignore the request to submit a ResearchFish return! While this may seem an annoying task, this is the way Research Councils monitor the students they fund and not submitting may mean York gets less funding for future PhDs.

The deadline is Thursday 16th March at 4pm ...
