Since I graduated in graphic design in 1987, I have been dedicated to helping businesses communicate more effectively with their customers and ultimately improve their bottom line. I am passionate about designing Brand Identities that rejuvenate a business, make their owners and employees proud to represent that brand and give them a renewed passion for their business.
In the wee small hours of a summer morning in July 1994, it suddenly hit me. No, not a falling slate, a meteorite or a left hook from Tiger Mackay next door. Instead, I was struck by a big idea: to create a world-class, independent brand design consultancy. It was the kind of modest aspiration that only arrives after a big dram or two (three … ok four*).A few months later, the agency I dreamed of opened its doors under the name of Design Corporation. I had no clients, next to no cash, one wobbly desk, one used computer, a lot of misguided self belief and a clear ambition to make a difference.
For me, communication never has been and never will be simply about aesthetics. A pretty picture is all very well, but does it get the job done? Even if it does, exactly how well is it doing the job?
By the year 2000 we had grown. We’d even been able to invest in such excellent new technology that we were officially worth burgling.
By 2008 we had evolved to the extent that we practiced what we preached by rebranding as Darwin Brand Consultants
After 26 years in the industry I’m still passionately dedicated to helping companies from the large national to the little local build their brands. The projects may vary in terms of size and scope but our principles, and how we apply them, remain constant.
