I asked around for a couple of months, sitting on a concept a friend of mine had come up with for a tattoo. I wanted the best, no questions. I found RL1 by asking a few different shops where they went to get their ink done and stumbled onto a blog by Phil Holt. I found Gold..... "Old Gold" to be precise. Getting my name in the line up to get a consultation was pretty lucky, knowing what I do now. He divides his time appropriately between doing what he loves, art, and spending time with the ones he loves. The Facility: Clean. Organized. Spacious. Intriguing...... and Clean. The beautiful structure of a farm styled house renovated into an art space is a warm welcome when compared to a strip mall with neon lights. Books of personal interest and research lined the walls wherever original artwork left a space. Professional and dedicated love of art filled each room. The Staff: A house to many tattoo artists, passing through or permanently residing, I worked with Phil. He took some rough sketches and concepts and brought them to life with his unique style and focus. The scheduling was handled by his assistant, a very kind and pleasant woman who was patient with my initial complaints about scheduling (after waiting so long to decide on the concept, and only having one other small tattoo, I naively thought I could stroll in to the shop I liked and lay down because they were sitting around waiting for my business) --- not the case. The Cost: It's simple. You get what you pay for. Don't go looking for the best if you can't support the time and effort they put into getting there. In my opinion (remember I have 2 tattoos now, this second one taking up my entire right side torso) I payed for the best, and received it. If ever I decide I want another... I will return to Red Letter 1.

Nick Steagll has helped me obtain two tattoos, so far. He is professional and very talented. I am always pleased with his work. I plan to contact him soon about a third tattoo. Martha S.
