This is a 30 image panorama of the Northern Lights over Djupfjorden in the Lofoten Islands, taken last Tuesday night, 25th of March. It covers over 180 degrees of sky.
This is the first time I have attempted a large panorama of the aurora and it was a difficult stitch. Even though my exposures were only 2 seconds, by the time I had swivelled the tripod to take the next shot the aurora had moved quite a lot! In hindsight the show was too strong and travelling too fast for me to freeze this moment in time. I photographed the sky as quick as I could and then did two more passes for the mids and the ground.
I stitched this panorama together by manually blending the exposures to try and match up the sky as best I could. It is not perfect but is still a good representation of what I saw that night. In a way the aurora shares many similarities with the snowflake, in that they are unique and never the same twice. So with this photograph I have created my own snowflake! multiple moments created by nature and shaped by me.
I hope you like it still.
