My daughter, 5, loves Camelia. Her name is also very close to the butterfly's. =)

Well done. I don't have a need for this, but it seems to me that more stuff like this would provide much greater access to Perl. We seem to forget there are excellent programmers out there who don't use vi or emacs.

Exceedingly well done; it's clear, concise, and suitable for all levels of Perl programmers. More like this, please =)

1. Why change "foreach statement modifier" to "inside out foreach"?

2. Suggesting "reverse sort { $a <=> $b }" is better than "sort { $b <=> $a }" because some Perl programmers don't understand the way sort works.

3. Suggesting that map and modifier foreach are basically the same, even though one builds a new list and the other doesn't.

I think he mostly did a good job, but some of what he said would confuse people further.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Last night's Houston.pm meeting with brian d foy was a real treat. This time, we tried something a little different and used Google Hangouts to screen cast the meeting.

For a full writeup about the meeting, see the Houston.pm website (http://houston.pm.org/talks/2013talks/1310Talk/index.html)

Neat.

This article is a review of 20 CPAN modules that can be used to make HTTP requests. Many of the modules can handle FTP and other types of requests, but here I'm just focussing on HTTP, and in particul...

I've been there 3 times in the last year. 2 for regular service, and most recently to install luggage racks onto my minivan - OEM parts I bought outside of the dealership. I don't care where you bought your Honda, take it to get serviced here. It's the only dealership I don't mind waiting at - and they are set up for people with laptops (wifi, sitting tables with plugs). They get it!

Carphoria is a local business with a single location that is attempting to break into the used car wholesale market dominated by Carmax and Texas Direct. They are no different in that regard, so if you're somehow under the impression that they are not like the "other guys," then I would think again. If you are set on selling your car to a wholesaler for far below the retail value of your used vehicle, then I'd go with Carphoria over the others simply because they're the underdogs and seem to be slightly more flexible. The reason I only gave Carphoria 2 stars is that I feel like I was tricked into driving 30 minutes to their location. When the sales associate called me to inquire about my vehicle for sale on Craigslist, it sounded a bit too good to be true. I figured it was worth a shot. The sales associate told me that she'd send me an email to confirm the potential range they'd be willing to pay for my car. I never received it. I called Carphoria many times leading up to my appointment and could not get ahold of anyone. I went in anyway, and as it turned out their range was much too low for me. Before you waste your time to go out there, make sure you know what range they'd be willing to pay for your vehicle. Otherwise, it'll be a tremendous waste of time for you. And again, they're no different that Carmax - just local and smaller. If you're going to sell to Carmax, you may as well sell to Carphoria.

Irene's continues to be a favorite. The food is great, but the key for me is that my fiance and I continue to have excellent experiences there. I attest this to the wonderful wait staff and the guiding vision of the restaurant's owner. It is a great place for locals and tourists alike - but don't try to go there with out a reservation if you don't like waiting. Irene's isn't exactly a well kept secret and they are very good about not rushing you out of there. This might irk some impatient and neurotic tourist types waiting to fill their bellies, but it is absolutely perfect for getting the most out of the wonderful atmosphere.
