The experience was a disappointment. My wife and I were looking forward to the dinner at F&D, as we have heard nice things about this place. Here is an itemized list of our combined experience: Place: 2 out of 5... Small crowded room, limited outside sitting, limited parking Service: 3 out of 5... Bad experience with dessert to go (see below) but otherwise decent Appetizer: Popovers: 3 out of 5... Puffy bread... my wife liked it, I did not. Prices: 1 out of 5... Overpriced for the amount and quality. Poor collection of beer. Wine is expensive. Dish #1: Magret duck: 4 out of 5... My wife's choice... good quality Dish #2: Pastrami pork: 1 out of 5... My choice... Really fatty unbalanced dish with a bad aftertaste Dessert: Pavlova: 2 out of 5. We took it to go because the restaurant does not offer and tea choice. They brought it packed in a paper bag and we did not look inside, but found out that it was smashed when we got home... tasted OK... Summary: This was the first and last time we visited F&D

OMG! Best dining experience I have had in quite a long time. Their food is amazing and their Saturday morning bakery is fantastic! Be prepared to wait in line unless you get there early and camp out.

the red wine selection was lacking. the service was ok, the atmosphere was also pretty lacking. The main course was not at all filling i had to purchase bread for eight dollars in order satisfy my hunger. the meal ended up costing me 55$ but i have had better meals with better wine for about 35$ overall it was the least satisfying meal i have paid over 30$ for in my six years of living in austin. the steak was alright, the service was ok. i can not understand how this restaurant has above a four star rating. perhaps the presentation of the way the food was artistically displayed could be called four star. i would suggest adding something to the steak plate like rice, a potato, or at least a small peace of bread.

I went to F&D with really high expectations from what I had heard from friends and food blogs. I have to say I was not impressed with the food. The popover was dry but loved the chicken and biscuit. The reason I gave 4 stars was for the service, it was wonderful. The staff was very knowledgeable about the food and wine list.

Service is friendly but they rush the courses. The staff dresses extremely casual. Decor is rather "low rent" (we sat next to an extension cord, could see them washing dishes, patio is loose rock, etc.). The food was uneventful. Overall I was embarrassed to have taken my date there.

Everything I ordered was amazing! The Speck ham & cornbread with tomato jam was delicious, the Popovers were flakey and filled with just the right kind of cheese, and the Lamb Loin paired perfectly with the brussels and pear! #cityexperts

I've been here three times and the experiences couldn't be more different. When I came here with my husband for oysters Tuesday, the food and service was fantastic. We had such a great time, so we thought the bake sale would be amazing. We were wrong, both times we went to the bake sale the food was subpar and services couldn't rush us out the door fast enough. I understand there is a line but when you rush your customers out of the door and get our orders wrong, makes for bad experiences. I was especially disappointed when we order 4 chocolate crossants but came home with plain. We had two really sad nieces that breakfast morning. I wouldn't recommend coming here for breakfast. Come here for dinner but expect wait time 30 min to 1.5 hrs for seating.

Went here because it has been raved about by many blogs, people, etc. The wait was quite ridiculous for a week night at nearly 8:30PM. Not really impressed with the whole experience. The seating is pretty cram and makes for having a casual conversation very difficult because people's conversation is on top of yours, by the end of the night you are screaming at one another. It's very echo-ey in there as well so that doesn't help the fact that you are sitting on top of the next party. The menu is diverse and vague so that makes for a long time with the waiter explaining everything on the menu. There is a special menu that is limited per day. I wanted to try stuff on that menu, but by the time we actually got to seat everything was practically sold out. Was not impressed with the food, it has an Austin twist on it with a little bit of not so good twisted into it. The prices are fair for what you are getting. The lack there of service makes the experience a sour one. The desserts are the best part of the meal here, wouldn't really return or recommend it to others when there are so many other Austin gems that excel on all levels not just the food.
