It is the beginning of Spring here in New Zealand. For some years I have been wanting to photograph the Tui, our iconic honeyeater, against a pink blossom background. To date this has proven elusive. However a couple of weeks ago I was driving from my home in the north east of Auckland over to the west coast to photograph a local gannet colony. Instead of my usual freeway route, I took a back road. To my delight I drove past a property that had two beautiful pink blossom trees in peak bloom. I pulled my car over and watched for a while to see if the blossom flowers were attracting any Tui. Sure enough after a few minutes I was rewarded with a steady procession of hungry visitors and I spent a very happy couple of hours.

I have been unable to return to the location until yesterday. The blossoms have fallen and the Tui are gone. I was blessed to have those couple of hours earlier!

Mountains and Fountain

What a day to be living and loving in Wellington.

I found myself driving around Oriental Parade this afternoon and was taken by the snow capped Rimutaka ranges in the far distance. The Carter fountain was jetting skyward making a great foil for the mountains.

There's a place I go
Mt Harper, Mt Davie and Mt Stewart lit by the coming dawn, Waimakariri River valley, Arthurs Park National Park, New Zealand

Early morning, lying on the frost on the stones of the Waimakariri River bed, watching the sunrise.  All part of the fun on our recent trip around the South Island (read the blog / see the photos here: www.ankhphotography.net/blog )
