The sun's eventually dared to show its face. We'd planned for this day all week having watched the weather forecast. A short boat trip from Keyhaven, a walk around the castle - which is being restored in many places and won't be back to "un-scaffolded" state until later this year, and then a wander around Milford, before a drive down to Mudeford Quay with first our fish and chips picked-up from Alexander's.

Straight off the iPhone, some snaps of our visit to Romsey Abbey which we liked a lot. An abbey saved from the dissolution by the actions of four burghers who stumped up £100 to buy the church from Henry VIII. A highlight was seeing the medieval organ which is "on tour" before it is placed in St Teilo's church at St Fagans. We'll see it there no doubt quite soon.

A truly lovely house, with a great guide made up for the cloudy dismal, depressing day. The Saxon church was a delight - I've seen a few of these diamond-shaped coats of arms just recently, this was quite a collection. The yew tree roots. The Saxon rood.
