Below is a graphic made from two photos that tells why I think National Service was so important to me. On the left I am standing at my home having received my gear to begin my National Service training. On the right, I have got my knees brown, my service in and am thinking of home, in the Forces vernacular.

Side-by-side these photos show better than any words can tell the effect in maturing me from a young lad to a young man, and why National Service is so memorable.

Hintock Branch manifests my love of all thinks model railroad or railway depending on whether you are in the US or the UK.  I've created model railways all my life. They've all tended to be about the Great Western Railway and set in Dorset.

In the past I simply built the model railroads, and exhibited them at model railway exhibitions. Later, I created articles for model railway magazines and supplied pictures of my model railway. In the golden years of my life, I have had time to create a website that details the everything about how I model railroad, from thinking about what I am going to create, through explaining how I build, and my philosophy and technique in operating the model railway. It Is all at Hintock Branch. Please check it out.

I'd like to use Google Plus to tell the world, or maybe that subset of the world who would be interested in it, about my National Service memoir, Gunner Flann. It is websites organized in book form that tells of  my experience in the Royal Artillery as a Gunner serving in Hong Kong in the 1950s.

My first post, I figured out how to set up a Google Plus page! Not bad for someone over 80.
