Given designer and 2016 CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund finalist Chris Stamp’s mantra “Made to Make It” — which glows in neon on the wall of his La Brea Boulevard boutique — it’s hard to think of a more appropriate setting than a Ciroc- and Red Bull-fueled house party in an $18.5-million Hollywood Hills mansion to celebrate his latest Puma collaboration surrounded by a cadre of professional athlete/magazine model types.

Paris-based women’s label Vanessa Seward has chosen the City of Angels as the home for the designer’s first retail boutique in the U.S. The 1,000-square-foot space on Melrose Place was designed by French architect Laurent Deroo and mirrors the look of Seward’s Paris boutiques with marbled stone floors, mineral blocks, midnight blue lacquered display screens with solid brass details and fitting rooms appointed in fabric panels.

Fans lucky enough to snap up tickets to Adele’s sold-out, six-night Los Angeles stand at Staples Center – which kicks off tonight – might well be wondering what to wear for the occasion. Something that won’t get ruined by emotional weeping? Probably. Comfortable shoes? Definitely. A lightweight top thin enough to wear under that newly purchased concert T-shirt? If you’re that kind of concertgoer, then absolutely.

On Friday, a week out from the start of the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro – and a day after Hillary Clinton took the DNC stage in a white Ralph Lauren pantsuit – Polo Ralph Lauren and the U.S. Olympic Committee took the wraps off Team USA’s opening ceremony parade look.

Snakes slithering across chunky signet rings, models clad in vegan shoes see-sawing on a patch of fake grass and a runway show that includes skeleton-shaped knapsacks sounds like a scene straight out of Los Angeles’ twice-yearly fashion week. But this particular event unspooled in early August, nearly three months ahead of the city’s traditional fashion week timetable.

Ongoing endorsement deals with snowboarding apparel brand Burton and sunglasses maker Oakley (to name just two) and a new exclusive-to-Macy’s clothing line aren’t all that the “Shauntrepreneur” has in the works. Here are a few of the other business ventures in which Olympic gold medalist and Los Angeles-area resident Shaun White has a stake:

Olympic style watchers take note: 2016 was the year the navy blue blazer and white trousers became the de facto dress code of the opening ceremony parade of nations. It’s a tried and true all-American look that, for at least one night, was adopted by delegations from Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Iraq, South Korea, Serbia and even Russia (the last of which might have out-prepped them all by outfitting the fellows in nat...

Story
Tagline
Adam Tschorn makes a living wrangling words and stringing them together.
Introduction
Adam Tschorn is currently a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times where his coverage of fashion, style and popular culture most often appears online at All The Rage and in the hard copy of the Sunday Los Angeles Times Image section.

He's been covering menswear since 2004 and wearing it much, much longer than that. He holds a BA in philosophy and an MA in journalism, which has prepared him perfectly for watching fashion shows and asking: "Why?"
Bragging rights
Survived 30 Vermont winters, able to write authoritatively on the death of the man cave and avant-garde ballet (at the same time), knows the difference between a lectern and a podium, and where the cardigan sweater got its name.
