Back at Javits for another New York Auto Show. Today is press day one and the morning starts with Toyota. Will attempt to post some iPhone photos throughout the day.

This morning kicks off the 2013 New York Auto Show coverage week for me. First up is a special private preview of the new Flying Spur from Bentley being held at a gallery in Manhattan. On hand are two craftsman from the UK factory demonstrating leather and wood veneer finishing techniques used in the interior of the luxury sedan.
Having only seen the Spur in pictures following the debut in Geneva, in person it seems quite large. The lower roof line and more defined belt line give the impression of a longer, lower proportion over the previous model.
The finish of the interior is impressive, basically every surface is covered in impeccably stitched leather or lacquered wood.

I really like Robert Proch's paintings for a lot reasons. Composition and color control are masterful. You can look at any of these paintings and continually find new details.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new 2014 Cherokee in person at the NYC auto show debut. I appreciate the risk taken with the distinctive styling. It looks new and different. I feel the negative reactions are coming from conservative minded people who expect more rehashing of ideas from the 50's and 60's (aka the new Corvette Stingray which I find boring) The Cherokee is uncomfortable at first but that's because it is challenging the assumption of what a Jeep can look like.

This is genius. Why Adobe chooses to focus on developing gimmicks and packaging them as new Photoshop versions is frustrating. The base drawing and painting tools could really use refinement and about everything I've been looking for is in this video.
The awesomeness really gets going at 16:00 in.

As a designer, this is why I won't be using Feedly for now. Function is the core, that's what made Reader so good. I could never get away with saying something like this:

'Note 1: Here are some tips on how to make feedly less pretty and more functional.'

Good summary of how Reader is the behind the scenes engine of the internet.

I consider myself a Google Reader power user and it has been an invaluable tool for keeping up with news on the web and doing research. It is all function and no flash, but that is exactly what I need. I've started my day with scanning feeds in Reader for years and I rely on it for work.  Really sad to see it go. I have no idea what to migrate to next. It deserves to be saved.

Already signed up for that too. The larger worry though is losing Google's server power which could make any of these replacements not as speedy. I plan of writing something up and sending it to the Digg guys though.

VW just knows how to do cool looking vans. I liked the functional look of Ford's Transit Connect but now it is going all swoopy.
