Forty years ago there was deep concern that the population was breaking free of apathy and obedience. Since then, many measures have been taken to restore discipline.

If you still don't understand what the Occupy movement is all about, or what these people are so pissed about, or why it is a legitimate cause, this article should just about cover it. If you read this, and still don't think there's a serious problem, then I worry for your sanity.

I freaked myself out a little watching this documentary. It's about the horrific chemical contamination of the water supply at the Marine Corps base Camp LeJeune, where I was born. I already knew about this, but I didn't know all the details, and seeing the families talking about the long lines of cancer and death really horrified me.

You need to watch this documentary. Not just military families, but EVERYONE. People need to know about this, they need to know how hard the Marine Corps and DoD has tried to keep it under wraps. There is currently a bill in limbo in the House of Reps to provide for the veterans and families affected by this. People need to be expressing to their representatives how important it is that the bill passes.

You're all Invited! to the University of Houston's Second Annual Graduate Student Literature Conference, which despite the name is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline! Check out, folks! If you're a student, chances are you've written tons of papers that never see the light of day. This may be your opportunity to share one with a larger audience!
Free-For-All Friday: You’re All Invited! Okay, I know I said I would do a review of the second Sherlock Holmes movie, and I will try to do that on Monday, but I wanted to spread the news about...

Oh. My. GOD.
Over the past few days, there have been many, many suggestions thrown around about what kinds of things should be done to Rush Limbaugh. But among the many creative ways which people have devised to p...

Lol, I agree to an extent. Except this isn't the really FUN kind of reading and writing. It's homework-reading, and writing a paper. Still, I agree it's definitely better than SOME things I could be doing.

Is anyone here surprised? Raise your hand. No? Didn't think so. Depressed? Terrified? Furious? Yeah... thought so.
Bruce J. Martin originally shared:

"Secrecy is taking over from free speech in the United States. While we naively thought the Obama administration would be more transparent than the previous one, it is actually the first to sue five people for being sources and speaking publicly."

New York City, 2011 as seen by a bystander:

"My office isn't far from Zuccotti Park and when I heard it was being cleared I went down with my camera. I ended up filming for 18 hours until the Park was reopened at 6pm on November 15, 2011. The police presence was overwhelming, more than I've ever - more than during the blackout, more than the days after September 11th."
