Henrys Cellar is definitely not for everybody. It is however, a real important space for Edinburgh's new bands and acts. It's a basement bar that hosts some gigs and club nights with a very lo-fi approach, but nonetheless, professionally. I'd go as far to say Henrys is to Edinburgh what the 13th Note is to Glasgow. DIY is key over there and you'd need to watch the listings and see what takes your fancy to make a visit. Pretty good place to go and support your local scene.

This is one of the most awful bars I have been in. The acoustics were not great, probably not helped by the fact that the speakers were taped to the walls. The floor was sticky and uneven, the lighting was non existent, everything was sticky and dirty and the bar was disgustingly hot and clammy. The toilets made you not want to drink so you can avoid using them. I am still stunned that a bar like this exists in a city with so many brialliant music venues, how can this one still be there!?

an intimate experience was fulfilled when we removed the chairs at the front and in protest sat down at the foot of the stage creating a "story tellers" environment after the vast majority could not see the stage adequately at the back. those in charge could do little to remove the whole lot of us and so gave in after minutes of consistent nagging the venue can be difficult to find, it's overly secured and if there is more than 60 people in there, it can be cramped However the range of music that is hosted merits a reason to visit

Henry's has turned a corner and is a great place to hangout during the week and get some proper clubbing done at the weekend. Try it again - I'm telling you.

Henry's is actually at 8 Morisson street, EH3 8BJ, just off Lothian Road. If you have any interest in local or alternative music, you'll find yourself here at some point. It's an alright wee place, but you're not going for the ambience as much as the music, so see what's on and go show your support for whatever appeals!
