Most Nissan CVT's vary the unit's base ratio by the secondary pulley's output gear. These gears as well as the corresponding transfer gear are not known to fail on their own. Transfer gear bearing failures, however, can damage both. In an overhaul, replacement with used components (and new OEM bearings) here is fine as we have never seen these gears fail independently.

Nissan/ Mitsubishi CVT: The ratio control motor is the primary component in hydraulic pressure management for variator ratio change. Stepper motors for Jatco CVT's are on the valve body and can generally be replaced with the CVT still in the vehicle.

Nissan CVT (JF011E): Given the very high pressures used to properly sheave the steel pushbelt, sealing surfaces are critical. Close attention must be paid to every critical area involved in pressure management. Allowing what some consider "passable" wear on sealing surfaces will result in mid-term problems. Thins is one of the key reasons for the high failure rate of Nissan's remanufactured CVT's.
