If there was ever a place that transformed you to another planet, it got to be the bizarre and fascinating Yellowstone National Park. On this particular day I woke up early in the morning and headed to the Mammoth Hot Springs to photograph the Orange Mound that was still flowing...What you cant experience in a photograph is the sound and smell of the location. When I visited this place the Orange mound was hissing as steam and water poured out of it.

How was this photograph created?
The overall exposure for the photograph (except for the moon) was easy due to the fact that I was photographing this location long before sunrise. So, I concentrated on the composition instead. I put the moon right over the dead tree. Later, I took a second photograph of the moon and merged the two images using our iHDR workflow.

Mirror Mirror in the Pond, Calf Creek Falls, UT
#landscapephotography , #photographyworkflow  , #photoshoptips

Calf Creek Falls is a stunning location. It is easy to access (with a moderate hike) but is located in very remote part of Utah. In Fall (last week of October) the trees put on a brilliant colors. We were fortunate enough to arrive here with our workshop at height of the fall. We had to cross the creek to get to this location....and we were prepared to do so.

How was this photograph created?
This is a HDR image...Not a normal HDR as you may expect, but an manually blended image of 2 different images using layers and Masks in photoshop. I used a circular polarizer to capture the brilliant colors of the fall for my first shot. And then rotated the circular polarizer so that I can clearly see the reflection in the water for my second shot. I then combined the two shots together to create the image you see here using our iHDR Manual Blending workflow.

Destination Utah!!, Escalante National Monument, Utah
#landscapephotography , #photographyworkflow

BEST VIEWED LARGE

I took this photo on my first visit to Calf Creek Falls. I was not expecting anything spectacular, but when I pulled my car to stop by at the overlook...this was what I saw. Looking at this I can see why this is a popular destination of landscape photographers.

How was this image created?
This photograph was created under blue skies in late afternoon conditions that any good photographer should avoid. Right? Wrong!!...We photographers get so mesmerized by the perfect light that we tend to ignore the beauty that surrounds us at all times. Next time you are out into the field try looking for a blue sky middle of afternoon photographs. You will be amazed at the opportunities you will be able to find.

Are songs purchased from iTunes still rights restricted? If not, how can you tell which ones aren't? Used to have a + if not

So, Google+ seems to like to tease you - letting you think you can upload photos but then never actually finishing the upload. #staringAtProgressBar

Note to self: DO NOT turn on the webcam when fiddling with a lap top sitting below you. The view of the turkey neck makes one feel ancient.

See? This is what I mean when people say I'm a good photographer. I'm a good snapshot taker...nothing like this.

Of the three best surises/sunsets that I have successfully photographed, two of them have occured on this narrow stretch of road known as Going to The Sun Road. Here is one of them....when photographing this, I remember turning to my fellow photographer and asking him if we are still on planet earth.

How was this Image created?
This shot was taken early in my photography career with my good old Canon D30 (3MP) camera. At the time my composition skills were not as advanced and neither were my processing skills. I did however understood the value of GND filters and balancing the light. I used a SOFT 0.6 GND filter to take this photograph.

+Patrick Smith, +Ivan Makarov, +Mike Spinak, +QT Luong  and other have been sharing early photos as well....feel free to check out their streams.

Trying to find a free social media manager that will let me post to Facebook (as a page), twitter, tumblr (as a secondary tumblr), etc. Would be ideal if they allowed for multiple log ins (aka, have other people help me manage the accounts). Any idea? (I'd love to add Pinterest and Google+, but know they don't offer fully public APIs yet)
