Story
Introduction
I like to refer to myself as a Jack-of-All-Trades / Master of Science. (I have an M.S in Forest Ecology with a concentration in Geographical Information Systems and Social Ecology). I hail from the great state of Michigan but have been a New Yorker for more than 10 of the best years of my life.  I always try to help where I can and be supportive of people and ideas that are important to me.

Since arriving here I've participated in some interesting groups dealing with Spirituality, Philosophy, and Open Source Computing in order to research solutions to international strife.

To pay the bills I've worked as an assistant to an internationally known writer and celebrity of sorts, was a Survey Project Manager for a national consortium of construction magazines and did some municipal bonds analysis (but haven’t we all).

I live very happily in Brooklyn Heights with his amazing wife Karen Tortora-Lee. I have interests in collective intelligence (and crowdsourcing), Appreciative Inquiry, scientific breakthroughs, touching stories about personal salvation through transformation, interesting art and how new web technologies (like The Shared Web and Google+) will one day save the world – one small step at a time.

I hopes this inspires you to join me.

Love the energy on this! It really evokes a sense of joyful freedom. It shows we just need to believe we can fly in order to get somewhere.

Thought this might be of interest to some of you...

The Heritage Health Prize is a $3,000,000 competition currently being run by kaggle.com and sponsored by Heritage Provider Network, an association of health insurance companies. The prize will be awarded to the statisticians (or "big data scientists") who can most accurately predict the probability that a someone admitted to a hospital will be re-admitted over the next year, using only data from before any medical treatment has been offered, and without any regard to the long term health outcomes of the patients. So far, despite multiple inquires, nobody has been able to determine any medical use for this information. However, it is very useful if you want a business reason to deny health care to those who need it the most and as such is clearly a money saving proposition. Why else would it be worth $3 million to health insurance companies?

Can you think of any ethical way to use this statistical model?
