Have you ever heard someone say that the Congress is a mess and that's why they don't vote? Do you think that's incredibly stupid, ignorant ... the very definition of the problem? Without getting into party affiliation, maybe it's time to rethink what might help get better people willing to run for office and what we can do to keep them there!
Too many people believe we will get better government by making sure no one in congress gets to stay there for a long time. I don't know why inexperience would mean better government. In what other...

Have a ring burning a hole in your pocket? Why not take a little walk to Mordor and drop it in the cracks of doom? Google has a map.

It was the 1990s ... Just like today, with fewer computers. And fewer cable stations. And a lot slower connection. Wired everything. Okay, I guess it was different, sort of. We had cats and  lived in condo.
Garry was working weekends that decade, so whatever stuff happened on Sunday was part of his beat. This particular Sunday, the old catholic cathedral near our condo in Roxbury, was going to host Ca...

If you think vaccinations are covered by Medicare as they used to be, you've got an unpleasant surprise coming.
If you’re on Medicare, that’s the message you’re getting. Out-of-pocket costs of Medicare have been going up annually, with ever-higher deductibles and premiums and a massive doughnut hole in presc...

My generation -- the post-war baby boomers -- had an unusually high percentage of dysfunctional relationships with parents. I thought it was a self-selecting sample. I had a pretty awful childhood....

Imagine that you are a doctor and your evaluation is based on patients you didn’t have. That's what the corporate reformers are doing to teachers---but much worse

Maybe you remember the trial. If not, here's a reminder.
For those of you who follow “big trials,” there was a huge one in 1997 in Boston. Garry was working and covered the trial, along with a zillion other reporters from all over the country. We became ...

Some of these I've seen before ... but you know, the beer bottle tree isn't a bad idea. I mean, if you already have all the bottles ... why not?
Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here.

I hardly know where to start. Okay. The ancient old mattress so hard we wound up sleeping on the even older futon in the "living room" because it wasn't quite as uncomfortable. No hangers in the closet. None, not a one. No baking dish. Toilets BOTH clogged. Mold in bathrooms. Chipped, ancient toilet seats. Heavy machinery in parking lot starting chugging at 7 this morning. I'm told that they renovated a mere 10 years ago and are planning to renovate when they get the money. It's a dump. I've traveled a lot and this is the first place I've ever given a really bad review. These people don't even try. I have pictures, in case anyone thinks I'm exaggerating. Front desk is terribly pleasant ... fixed smile and glazed eyes. Unless you have NO other choice, go anywhere esle. Motel 6 would be better. As a time share, this is really awful.
