Today at #devoxxfr we[1] give a 3h Hand's on Labs (basically a codelab) on #dartlang and #polymer . The goal for the attendees was to implement some parts of a simplified Risk game.
The session seems to have received a quite good welcome.

Feel free to give it a try and give us feedback.

Introducing Jimfs

In our Reddit AMA last month, we listed Jimfs as one of our team's projects, but we've never given it a proper announcement. So here it is!

Jimfs is an in-memory file system implementing Java 7's new file API (java.nio.file, aka NIO.2). It's designed primarily with testing in mind, speeding up unit tests that involve files by avoiding relatively slow disk reads and writes. You can also avoid dealing with cleaning up files your tests create by using a new file system instance for each test... just remember to close each file system when you're done!

Jimfs can create file systems that mimic (to a certain extent!) the behavior of a typical UNIX file system (i.e. Linux), OS X, or Windows, including supporting all file attributes they support. To use it, just create a new FileSystem instance like such:

try (FileSystem fs = Jimfs.newFileSystem(Configuration.unix())) {
  Path root = fs.getPath("/");
  // ...
}

Jimfs is available through Maven as com.google.jimfs:jimfs:1.0-rc1. If you're using the new file API, please give it a try and let us know what you think!

How to turn your Chromebook/Chromebox into a cloud development machine in 12 easy steps.

1. Enabled Developer Mode
http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/poking-around-your-chrome-os-device

2. Download crouton
https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton

3. Open crosh (Chrome OS Developer Shell)
CTRL-ALT-T

4. Open a command line shell
shell

5. Install crouton (we don't need X so just installing command line tools)
sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t cli-extra

6. Enter chroot
sudo enter-chroot

7. Install git and curl
sudo apt-get install git curl

8. Install Google Cloud SDK tools
curl https://dl.google.com/dl/cloudsdk/release/install_google_cloud_sdk.bash | bash

9. Authenticate to allow gcloud to access your data
gcloud auth login

10. Initialize a project folder (you will need to do this in your Downloads folder or any subfolder of it)
gcloud init my-awesome-project

11. Edit some files using your favourite Chrome packaged app text editor (I'm currently using Caret)
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/caret/fljalecfjciodhpcledpamjachpmelml

12. Deploy your files to app engine.
git add --all / git commit / git push origin master

Repeat steps 11-12 as often as necessary ;)
