Hey Tim, do you ever use juice-smoothies like Odwalla or Naked Juice? It seems like they would be very similar nutrient wise to baby food, since they're pasteurized fruit. Is there a reason you don't use starches as your backup food?

I'll have bottled smoothies when I'm traveling, but they don't taste nearly as good as the ones I make. As for starches, I'm just not a fan of the flavor… I'd have to season the heck out of them to make them tolerable.

Do you have a quick fix for a raw mashed potato recipe? I only know of high fat ones that utilize cauliflower or jicama and cashews, but I'd love to hear your bright ideas :)

+Lindsay Gasik you can puree raw cauliflower really creamy if you give it time! theres no need for the cashews. You can add a little water or almond milk along the way if you have to :) add green onion etc. its super good!

Great video Tarah, but just some thoughts:
Didn't people used to get banned for advocating eating cooked carbs? That's changed. And I think you mention Stevia use -- Freelee uses flavored stevia all the time in her vids.

Hey Lindsay, Back in the day they did get banned for promoting cooked, but only after receiving two warnings. Now there is a safe place for folks to discuss cooked carbs in a group designed for it.

Brilliant idea for the coconut, that would make it a little salty and sweet, as well as creamier than using a nut. Will try this out tomorrow! Thanks :)

Hey Freelee! I decided to try coconut sugar in my banana smoothie today to see what all the fuss is about. I actually didn't like it, I thought it tasted a bit like molasses which I never liked. But I'm glad I tried it :)

Haha I didn't believe you so I had to look it up for myself - you're right! I decided to compare the nutritional content of bananas by calorie. Seems that coconut sugar has a little more than 3X the content of zinc than bananas (2 mg vs. 0.6 mg for a 400 calorie serving). That's great since zinc is one of those nutrients we vegans seem to struggle to get enough of. You've definitely piqued my interest. I'll see if I can find some that doesn't taste like molasses :D

I agree 100% with getting rid of the pioneers label. We all already know who we admire from youtube or online and putting that divide between them and everyone else creates a strange vibe, almost like a class difference, when the festival is about everyone coming together.

I think the bananas I am eating here in Cairns are SO much better than bananas in the US. Not as good as some Thai varieties, but much better quality then what I eat at home.

Rob and I have been having a real adventure this year! We've been in Southeast Asia for 9 months now hunting the durian fruit, and are getting ready to start wrapping things up in Borneo!
