Last year, Patty was in treatment for breast cancer. This year, she’s in remission. “My mom’s life was saved because she had access to the resources she needed for a speedy diagnosis and treatment,” says Patty’s daughter, Claudia.

Claudia believes all women should have access to resources for early detection and prompt treatment. In honor of her mom, she started a Giving Page to support Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van, which provides screenings and breast health education to women in low income, elderly, and minority communities.

This October, join Claudia and create your own personalized fundraising page to support patients like Patty in honor of #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth or any area of cancer care or research that’s important to you. Learn more: https://jimmyfund.gives/j3jfp.

“My 24-year-old daughter is a cancer survivor who was treated at +Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and to me, giving back and raising money to fight this terrible disease was so special. I finished the 2018 race and said I was done with marathons, but within 12 hours I was ready to give it another shot. It’ll be an honor to wear the DFMC singlet again in April!” – Michael, a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team #RunDFMC

“This will be my first year walking in the Jimmy Fund Walk. I had participated in other cancer fundraising walks before and was inspired to sign up after learning that the event is inclusive of all cancers. My teammates and I will be wearing the colors of the rainbow to represent the different cancers that have impacted each of our lives.”–Deb, captain of Team Rainbow in the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai #JimmyFundWalk

Leanna was living an active life in August 2016 when an injury brought her to the doctor for a routine appointment—which revealed a surprising breast cancer diagnosis. She soon started treatment at Dana-Farber, where she now works.

“Dr. Wendy Chen was my perfect oncologist; she told me I was not a delicate flower, so if I felt well enough to do something through chemo, I should do it—so I did,” Leanna says. While she had to stop biking during parts of her treatment, Leanna looked for other ways to be active, like walking through museums and kayaking with her sister.

“I tell people all the time that Dana-Farber doesn’t just heal your body, they heal your soul,” she continues. “I’ve been impressed by the resources available to patients, especially during cancer recovery, from the Zakim Center group classes to fatigue research studies.”

Today, Leanna hosts her own cancer podcast (Thanks, Cancer!) to encourage other survivors to see what they can still do and what cancer can’t take away. She’s participating in Jimmy Fund Fit Fest presented by +Reebok to give back to Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund—and inspire other patients to continue being active through treatment. #JimmyFundFitFest

“Dave fought with all his might to beat this ugly disease. His oncologist at Dana-Farber, Dr. Cleary, was compassionate and tireless in his efforts to extend Dave’s life as long as medically possible. He never gave up on Dave, and we will forever be grateful.”

Dave’s family named a gene in Dana-Farber’s Gene Display to make a difference, and support cancer research and care. You can, too. Dana-Farber will place 100 genes in the display before September 30, and only 11 remain to be named. Will yours be next? Learn how: https://jimmyfund.gives/w5qmp

“My favorite part of the Jimmy Fund Walk is seeing all our friends and family come together to remember Sean. Nothing makes me happier as a mother than to know that my child isn’t forgotten.” – Sara, a participant in the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai

Sara started her team, Seanie Strong, in 2013 in honor of her son, Sean, who was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma and treated at Dana-Farber. When Sean passed away in 2015, Sara continued to walk in his memory with the hopes of raising more money for Dana-Farber’s mission to end cancer. Join Sara and walk on September 23.
