Greg Essayan's "Ancient One"

"In the PBS television series 'The Cosmos' that first aired in the early 1980's, astronomer Carl Sagan poetically stated, 'We are made of star stuff.' Sagan's words elegantly sum up the fact that the carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms in all living things on earth today, as well as atoms of all other naturally occurring elements on earth, were created many billions of years ago within the nuclear furnaces of distant suns. Those critical elements arrived here as the ejecta of distant supernovas to form our solar system over 4.6 billion years ago. Fast forward over three decades (a mere blink of an eye on the cosmic clock), and here I stood at a place called 'Island in the Sky' under the canopy of a night sky laden with the faint burn of countless distant suns. As I gazed up through the branches of an ancient tree silhouetted against the faint glow of the star clouds and nebulosity at the center of our galactic home, the Milky Way, I contemplated Sagan's words. I was gazing upon 'that which once gave birth to us and all things we have ever known and will ever know or ever be.' I felt a deep and profound connection to the cosmos. Sagan explained it best, 'Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return; and we can, because the cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.' Likely having been here rooted in this place since before Christ, this ancient tree stood as now did I, both born of stardust and both destined to someday return." ~ Greg Essayan

Greg Essayan's "Ocean Rainbow"

"The human eye is one of the great marvels of nature. It does however have its limitations. In faint light colors vanish and we perceive the world only in shades of gray. The camera however is not so limited and accordingly becomes a powerful tool to reveal the hidden beauty of the dim night sky. Night photography presents unique challenges even under the best conditions. This particular night on a remote Pacific beach far from resort lights was no exception. The risk of salt spray from an errant wave at any moment destroying my camera all more than compensated for by the excitement and satisfaction that comes from capturing the magnificence of the night sky. On this night I was treated to a truly unique combination of ocean, clouds, stars, airglow and Milky Way, and out of the dark of the night, over an iridescent ocean, the heavens magically yielded all the colors of the rainbow." ~ Greg Essayan

"Skyfall" by Aubra Franklin

"The elements required for a great painting are the same as those present in a great photograph but with one distinct difference. The painter must decide what to include while a photographer must decide what to exclude. Both artists must account for the foundational elements of their work: composition, perspective, color, tone, line, space, and texture. The painter starts with a blank canvas that is empty and full of possibility, and then decides what to paint. The photographer's starting point is the viewfinder brimming with all the elements vying for attention. Through this chaos the photographer must choose how to simplify and create order while guiding the viewer to the subject. True masters bring forth works that embrace simplified visions awash with yet undiscovered stories.

This regal and stately mountain, Paine Grande in the Parque Nacional in Torres del Paine in southern Chile, was graced this morning with amazing solitude and a perfect and simplistic frame. Low clouds allowed the kiss of the morning sun to bathe the peaks in a copper glow while perfectly positioned driftwood and the setting moon complete the frame with a resplendent flawless reflection." ~ Aubra Franklin

Greg Essayan's "Midnight Mirror"

"I love the stars that fill the night sky. I love water in its myriad forms and moods. Most of all, I love creating images that include both. I am fascinated too by reflections in water - dynamic, fleeting and ephemeral, pure illusion. Mother nature's "Alice" mirror. A portal to a place that can be seen yet has no form. “Midnight Mirror” is a truly rare piece that took many months from conception to execution and remains one of my personal favorites. Allow yourself to be immersed in its mystery, serenity and beauty." ~ Greg Essayan
