I have only glanced at it at this point, but what you say is their new focus hits exactly how I have been using it for the last couple of years.  I am completely focused on Communities of interest in which I find colleagues, not ""friends".

Constructionism and the Maker Movement aren't just for STEM.  Anytime your students create something, they are "making".  If they can make it for an audience instead of for you, they are Making.

I am on OpenSUSE Linux.  Google says I can get the new app/look, but the Hangouts App keeps crashing when I open it.

Google Classroom Grade Book?
We are in the earliest stages of choosing an LMS to replace our current system when the contract runs out.  Google Classroom is in the running based on a poll of students and faculty.  However, at my last look, there was no grade book function.  Is this still the case?

Help with Chrome G-Drive Extension?
I use the Google Drive extension in Chrome for saving web content to Drive.  However, it has a frustrating limitation in that I can not, on the fly, change the folder into which I am saving.  Does anyone have a solution that allows that? I know you can do it with Evernote, and I can pin with Padlet, but I have been trying to consolidate all of my Philosophy instructional material and InstTech materials onto Drive.  But clearly they should go to different "containers".

How much is MS 365 costing us?
Editing Post:  Hi +Bill Pier Sorry I wasn't clearer in the original.

First, I am the instructional technologist at a GAFE College.  I am an ardent supporter of GAFE and absolutely do not want to switch.  I have been arguing with our IT department for 2 years that GAFE is the vastly superior system, at least for schools, and in my opinion, for nearly every use of SAAS by nearly everyone in the world.

I started with cost because that was my question right now.  We have just been informed of a rollout of 365 (over my vociferous objection)to the students on top of their already existing GAFE accounts.  I was trying to find out if I could make an argument on cost to people who use either just MS or sometimes neither.

This is in no way a post looking to justify using MS.  I have been a gmail user since October 28, 2004.  I have been a proponent of the Apps at two higher ed institutions for somewhere around 5 years.  I have been a member of this community since its earliest days.

I am trying to fight back the encroachment of costly and degraded copycat services.

I hope that this is sufficient justification for my post.

We are a GAFE school and have also had a separate "official" Exchange email for faculty and staff.  This past month some administrators have decided to roll out Office 365 for all students, faculty and staff to run parallel with our GAFE system.  Aside from all of the functionality questions this brings up, some of us are wondering how much this is costing.

We have been told that it is free for students.  There seem to be 2 education plans.  One is entirely free, but hobbled.  The other, which includes copies of the neolithic Office for Windows, costs, according to MS, USD 2.50 /student / month and $4.50 / faculty / month (nothing about staff).  This latter seems to be what we have since the rollout says it includes the "nailed to the hardware" version for 5 devices. There is also a Business plan (ProPlus) costing USD 12.00 / fac-staff / month that brings students in free.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Is there some other plan?  Are we definitely paying this?  Does already having Exchange change things?
