"When we think of boundaries, we may think of the Great Wall of China to keep out invaders. A line on a map to define what’s yours and what’s mine. A barbed-wire fence to keep creatures where they belong. A screen door to let in a breeze but keep out the flies."

Is closed adoption on its last legs? For various reasons, I say yes. So we'd better figure out how to make open adoption work better for those in one.
A new birth mother memoir pits open adoption vs closed. Is open adoption a panacea? And why are the days of closed adoption coming to an end?

I gave this question a shot, but I'd also like to invite some community wisdom here. Has anyone been in Laila's shoes?

A reader asks how to talk to her children about their birth father when the man denies paternity. Here's one approach. Do you have something to add?

"Less than 2% of our population provides food for 100% of our population." Women who grow food dine with women who eat food.
As an eater of food, I find common ground with women farmers who grow food. Over dinner, I learn a few things about farming and food.

Access Connecticut needs you to restore equal rights to all people born there and placed for adoption. Here's how you can help (even if you're not in CT).
Advocate for a law that restores the right of ALL Connecticut adoptees to get their true, original birth certificate.

What do rogue melons have to do with parenting? A short post for #microblogmondays
Sometimes a stubborn thing will grow in surprising places. I honor how my two young rogues are blooming here, despite their transplanting.

Short, sweet and an apt metaphor for our kids.

Why not just stick with secrecy?

The way we once did traditional adoption didn’t always work so well, especially for the child at the center.
With secrecy we acted “as if” nothing remarkable had happened in the building of our family.     But it had.
With secrecy, we assumed the baby would be a blank slate on which we could write our own story.     But she wasn’t.
My article is the cover story for Pathway2Family magazine. In embryo adoption, openness between donor & recipient can make a big difference for the child.

I had the pleasure of working with Bryan West on trying out a SmileBrilliant TeethWhitening Kit and offering a giveaway on my review blog. The product lived up to the expectations I had, and Bryan was wonderful to deal with. He was personable, stayed in touch to the appropriate degree, and was always kind and professional. It has been a very positive experience, and I have a whiter smile to boot!

Katie led me through my first Pilates class expertly. She knew exactly how hard to work me so that I could find my edge -- to be challenged but also experience success. The studio is clean and bright, the machines well-maintained and also clean. I highly recommend Personal Pilates Plus. Disclosure: I assist with social media for Personal Pilates Plus. I love representing such a wonderful organization.
