A Moment
I spent some time Friday roaming Seattle and got in a few shots!  This was shot from Kite Hill in Gasworks Park, looking south across Lake Union.  The couple below was in what looked like Prom formal attire, and the woman to the left was busy getting her gear ready for a shoot.  Made for some human interest in the big landscape, I thought.

This was my first time out shooting in a couple months - I've been busy with some music stuff, and not particularly inspired to shoot in the grey, wet weather we've had.  It felt good to be back out in the world, looking at people and shapes and light!

Unsolicited Best 5 CDs of 2013 List
Here we go - there was so much great music this year, I just had to write up a list of my top 5 faves, on which list sharp eyes will note there are actually 6!

Haim – Days Are Gone.  Lots of hype about this trio of sisters – they’re on just about every top 10 list of 2013 that I've seen and deservedly so.  But what I like is the rhythmically interesting, parts-oriented approach to every song (no strum-along cheesiness here).  These three are musically tight and connected like only siblings can be, I think.  And I am completely smitten with Danielle (the guitar player of the three, of course).
Sarah Jarosz – Build Me Up From Bones.  Sarah has about the silky smoothest voice I've heard in a while, and at only 22 years old!  She plays a dizzying variety of instruments, and all of them well.  The whole album is filled with accessible, beautiful songs that go way beyond her pop-bluegrass categorization.  Watch her NPR Tiny Desk Concert, too.
KT Tunstall – Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon.  Seek out and watch the video of “Feel It All” which may be my single favorite song of the year.  KT has reached a fine level of maturity and confidence in this album.  This one will stay on the iPhone for a long, long time.
North Mississippi All-Stars – World Boogie is Coming.  Flat-out fun, roots rock/blues awesomeness.  How can you not love a blues romp called “Goat Meat” (ain’t fit to eat), to go along with a killer version of Rollin and Tumblin.
Queens of the Stone Age – Like Clockwork.  Josh Homme is so brutally honest.  This stuff is not for the faint of heart, but it his most consistent, cover-to-cover work in a while.  And killer guitar tones throughout.
Sound City – Real to Reel.  This album was cut as part of Dave Grohl’s documentary project about the old Sound City studio.  There is some serious rock n roll happening on this CD, although I could do without the Stevie Nicks tune (sorry!).  My faves are “Time Slowing Down” with Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk (bassist and drum player from RATM), and “From Can to Can’t” with Corey Taylor (Stone Sour, and Slipknot) and Rick Neilson (Cheap Trick!).  Josh Homme hangs out and warbles some, and how can you not like Paul McCartney jamming with the remaining members of Nirvana!
Honorable Mentions:  The Milk Carton Kids;  Tedeschi Trucks Band – Made Up Mind;  Neil Young – Live at the Cellar Door
