Hirsch also says in Forgotten Ways that when we use the church growth model each event must outdo the previous outreach in scope, appeal and general wiz bang! Thus we end up in an endless cycle of coming up with the next big event which exceeds the previous. These attractional events continue to suck up more and more of the church's resources, thus pulling those resources (time, money, volunteers) away from the church's primary mission of disciple making!

What if we viewed Paul's defense of his apostleship ministry in 2 Cor. as the model for church leadership instead of (or at least in addition to) the traditional "Pastoral" Epistles? Check out my first Video Blog! Portrait of a Pastoral Leader (from 2 Cor. 1:12).

Jesus uses the absurd image of a lamp placed under a basket to make a point. The message of the kingdom, while veiled (by religion) and mysterious to so many, is meant to be proclaimed! Follow Me - Part 13 in our journey exploring the meaning of discipleship through the gospel of Mark:
