From @laughingsquid:"In 1992, at the age of 12, filmmaker Jeremiah McDonald filmed himself talking to his future self. Now, twenty years later, he not only has watched the video but has made a new one. A Conversation With My 12 Year Old Self: 20th Anniversary Edition is the name of the awesome film in which he cleverly converses with his younger self."

This is absolutely brilliant.

16 Things That it Took Me Over 50 Years to Learn (by Dave Barry)

I love the hilarious little signs that hang on the walls of Jimmy John's sandwich shop (Mmmm, Jimmy Johns), and I took my son there tonight for dinner. One sign that always really tickles us both is shown below --- it was written by my all-time favorite writer, humorist Dave Barry on his 50th birthday. Although it is very funny, there's a lot of truth and some good advice in there, too. Hope you get a chuckle out of it (my son's favorites are #1, #10, and #15. I'm quite partial to #2, only because it's so true!). :)

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be “meetings.”
3. There is a very fine line between “hobby” and “mental illness.”
4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.
5. You should not confuse your career with your life.
6. Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.
7. Never lick a steak knife.
8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.
9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she’s pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.
11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.
12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.
13. A person, who is nice to you but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)
14. Your friends love you anyway.
15. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
16. Final thought for the day: Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it’s up to the women to stomp the snot out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

--- Dave Barry

Fixed up the bathroom today, yay! New showerhead, fluffy (not cold) toilet seat, and finally a toothbrush holder. Fantastic!

I'm going to be a little ranty for a second. You should probably skip this.

Quoting the Huffington Post:

"Gerardo Sanchez, father of a 13-year-old student at the school, told KCAL-TV that he can't believe this is happening at his child's school.

'School is supposed to be a safe place," he told the station. 'Now, you think twice because you never know what is going to happen.'"

Really, dude? Are you fucking serious? Guess what: your child's school IS STILL A SAFE PLACE. One of your kids' teachers may have done porn -- WHEN SHE WAS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR CHILD -- and you think the school is now suddenly not a safe place?

Guess what, dude: the world is not a safe place, especially if you're the kind of person who is terrified that you may be exposed to things you personally don't like when you step outside of your house. If you're so worried that your precious little snowflake is going to interact with a person who did something you don't approve of when that person was nowhere near your child, you should move to Mars, build a moat around your house, and homeschool. Also, remember to bang the rocks together, you idiot.

The world is filled with people who do things you don't approve of. Off the top of my head, I can think of something: parents who think a school is suddenly unsafe, because one of the teachers at that school may have done something they don't approve of when they were nowhere near the school.

Even though I don't agree with parents who are losing their shit because of something a teacher may have done away from school on her own time, I completely understand why it would make some of them uncomfortable or angry... but to suggest that it somehow makes the school unsafe? That's just fucking stupid. I mean, that's Sarah Palin stupid.

Okay. Rant over. I told you that you should probably skip this.

Alright guys, this is the last time I'm going to bring this up. Please copy and reblog this image as much as possible. Hopefully we can get people's attention and stop Congress from approving this disastrous piece of legislation.

Thanks!

If you want to take a stand again SOPA — the bill that would allow the US government to effectively censor the web — here's an easy way to send your Congressperson a letter.
