Here's a general question for the community...social business is fast becoming the way we should be doing business. And the market place is being flooded with so called "social business consultants" who state they can help companies with the transformation process.

But how can a small-medium business distinguish between those consultants that truly can deliver for them and those that just talk a good game?

Once social business is an established transformation with many SMB's then I'd agree +Tim McDonald but for the moment it is still a fairly new concept and one which few have applied to entire organisations. Yes, there are some that are deploying / using Enterprise Social Networks like Yammer, Salesforce or IBM but that's just the technology. When I refer to social business transformation I'm looking at technology, processes and especially the people aspect of dealing with that change in mindset associated with being social. So until social business becomes more mainstream, how do we determine the credentials of a social business consultant?

Hi +David Christopher, I'm currently reading for my Masters in IS Management and Innovation from Warwick Business School and am working on my dissertation which is concerned with the collaborative capabilities of social media within a business context. Would you be interested in discussing my research with you further?

Also, I am actively seeking a job in London starting in September (upon completion of my MSc) preferably within the social media sphere. The job posted above or something similar would definitely be of interest to me.

Let me know what you think

Is it possible to disassociate your personal profile from your work one when using social media or are we all Brand Ambassadors?

This show on Are ALL Employees Brand Ambassadors? will have the 'Through The Firewall' panellists discuss and debate how the role of employees in the social world we now live and if what we say on social media are the views of the company we work for even if our profile stipulates that it is not. We'll also be discussing that whilst it is technically possible to separate work and personal profiles on social media platforms, do people who engage with us really see that distinction.

+David Christopher, I'm surprised and saddened by this instance of community management. I'm surprised PC Advisor has let it continue. I wonder if there will be any type of recourse or retraction of these comments in the future?

Great debate on the value of Employee Social Networks behind the firewall. Twitter Chat event on Thursday on the same topic.

This week's topic is Employee Social Networking

BACKGROUND
Social Networks are so popular because quite simply there is a deeply rooted need among human beings to connect and share, whether it is information or opinions. This makes Social Networking a valuable commodity and a great information source.

But what about deploying Social Networking behind the firewall. A platform for employees to engage and exchange ideas and opinions amongst their peers that remains within the confines of the company. Can the same benefits of Social Networking out in the world wide web be experienced inside?

Yesterday +Amanda Coleman +Colin Hope-Murray +Greg Lowe +Jonathan Relf +Mark Oehlert debated Employee Social Networking with host +Liz Christopher on our Thru' the Firewall Show (more info on the Live Show can be found at http://www.stopthinksocial.com/live-show-swchat/ ). Playback of the Show is below.

Do you agree with their views? Have you anything further to add. Please do continue the conversation by posting below.

For those of you that use Twitter the debate will rage on via our Twitter Chat event on Thursday 21st Feb at 1pmPT / 4pmET / 9pmGMT (more info on our Twitter Chat can be found at http://www.stopthinksocial.com/swchat )

And if you enjoyed the Show please +1 and share with networks. Thank you.

I sent you a LinkedIn connection. I am starting a new project, taking my external social media experience and applying it internal social enterprise systems. Employee social networking.
