working with +sarah hartley on a pretty interesting community activism project. the result is a method for spreading the word about protests.

it could be any community activity - from festivals to charity projects to street markets to garage sales to whatever.

basically, you invite people who are in the know to post news about a topic with a hashtag to n0tice.com.  Then you pump that info into a range of different sources, including a home base, such as http://protestnearyou.com/.

we're using the n0tice API to get a geoRSS feed with the #protest  hashtag.  that feed goes to WordPress via the Syndication plugin on protestnearyou.com.  it also goes to Twitterfeed to tweet via @n0ticeProtest. and finally, the Facebook plugin on WordPress posts things to the ProtestNearYou page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Protest-Near-You/367152840020207.

sounds a bit ropey, I know, but it's pretty amazing how far you can spread something, how loud you can amplify it and yet how relevant you can make it for people if you just sew together some context and some data and pump it into the right places.

it's pretty amazing to see this phone still working 6 months after being crushed by a car. it just keeps on going. had to take a video of it before it does finally die.

Pushing the boat out a bit more on http://n0tice.com. Released noticeboards, customized versions of the platform for any community.

I started writing a blog post about the evolution of how we think about transparency, but this came out instead.
