They say perseverance pays off. That might be true, but you have to have a truckload of resilience because sometimes the elusiveness of success can be a hard pill to swallow. When do you say enough is enough?

Cygne Noir began almost 4 years after I quit trying to "make it" in the music industry.

In 2008, after 17 years, 3 bands, over 200 songs written and many concerts played, I figured success had passed me by. I hadn't broken into the business and by most industry standards it was too late. So after much consideration and hesitation, I went back to school and traded my guitar and mic for a chef's knife and jacket.

After getting my degree in culinary arts and restaurant management, I moved to the island of Mallorca in Spain to work and learn more about Mediterranean cuisine. That's where I met my wife, who after hearing some of my songs, insisted I start writing again. By the end of that year we had relocated to Germany and I began writing and recording again.

At the end of 2011, with only a laptop, a keyboard controller and a microphone, I began working on the first Cygne Noir EP. My time in Spain and the experience of falling in love, had given me plenty of ammunition for new songs, but I wasn't ready to commit to a music career. The rise of streaming services and my dissatisfaction with the music industry in general, made it an easy choice for me to just enjoy making music without any expectations. No band and no shows allowed me to work on my craft, learn how to use new recording software and record and release 3 EPs and a full-length album in the span of two and a half years; just in time to welcome our first child.

The birth of my son awoke a passion in me that had been hibernating for far too long. Once again I felt the need to share this passion with the world. I began writing new songs and trying new things with the songwriting and production, but this time, it wasn't enough; I had to start playing shows again. Whereas my previous releases owed their sound to electropop and synthpop, these new songs were a bit more experimental and relied a lot more on guitars and rhythm. Nevertheless, the decision to perform solo on stage seemed the most natural to me for some reason, so the idea of putting together a band, became a moot point.

The first of these songs "24 Bars" was released through Bandcamp on October 2, 2015 and will see a general release around Halloween. I'm currently working on booking shows in the Cologne, Germany area.
