When I first learned about Alan Turing, he became a bit of a hero to me. As time goes on, even more so. Today is the anniversary of the day he submitted his paper for publication, "On Computable Numbers". His paper defined computer science.

Worth 2 minutes of your time

This car saw me through college and my first job and even my first business. Always reliable. But the last few years it's been languishing in the driveway, being slowly reclaimed by the nature from which it was ripped. Today a neighbor guy stopped by to say he was going to be destroying his concrete back patio and getting it hauled away, as a friendly notice. He asked about the car. His son has a big truck that gets terrible gas mileage. He called him to come look at it. They fiddled with it, and it started right up after all these years with a simple jump and a little gas. I sold it to him for $50, and they just hauled it away, where they're going to fix it up at his dad's house. Very sad to know this old friend is gone. Very happy I have an eyesore gone from the driveway. Very sad I never did more for it myself. Very happy this young man who puts new life into it may find it as dependable a friend for as long as I did.

Saturn's beauty is breathtaking. But there is something about the awesome scale of Jupiter's symmetry and asymmetry - it's colossal miasma - that neverending, tumultuous divide between order and chaos...

I really like the color of this clematis. It doesn't seem to like climbing metal at all.

Since we broke him out of the slammer, Jack's turned his life around. He wants to wish you a good, long weekend off.
