“My head hurts.” “I feel nauseous.” “I just want to sleep.”  If you are having these symptoms, it is quite possibly the result of carbon monoxide.

Now is the time to make your annual furnace checkup. We all have yearly exams by our general practitioner. We also have our vehicles maintained on a regular basis. So why do so many of us skimp on having our heating and air systems maintained? Don’t wait until it breaks down before calling us for service.

Our professionals at Citywide Refrigeration Heating & Air can prolong the life of your furnace by simply doing routine maintenance to keep your unit clean and well adjusted. Which will save you money on utilities and perhaps save your life from the silent but deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.

Here are a few tips you, as a homeowner can do to help keep your systems running efficiently:

• Replace the filters every 90 days. If you have pets, it will need to be replaced sooner. I recommend inspecting the filters once a month.
• Clean the outside condenser with a garden hose to keep dirt and debris out of the coils. Also, keep at least a 2-foot radius around your unit. Do not plant bushes or flowers around the condenser.
• Don’t close off the vents in rooms that are not being occupied. This actually makes your unit work harder.
• Last buy certainly not least, install a carbon monoxide detector or two. If you have them already, replace the batteries during the fall season.

All of these steps will help keep your heating and air unit run efficiently. Call Citywide Refrigeration Heating & Air to schedule your annual furnace inspection and maintenance at (405) 737-2525 or (405) 692-0201.
