About the third (st)age of life.

"The importance of understanding that there is in fact a third stage of life — another yet unexplored developmental phase of lifespan — is that without it humanity will continue to struggle, both violently and in silence, with the quality of life, as well as with their own emotional and physical health. In order to truly thrive, the hypothesis of a third stage, full of potency and productivity, full of creativity and love, has to be considered."

Mathematics is beautiful.

Now I am sure that my troubles with math came from my teachers' approach and from the unresponsive to my needs and abilities educational program.
If I had lessons like this, I could make it better at school.

The importance of intergenerational communication.

When I wrote the word intergenerational, my computer underlined it with a red wavy line. It was unknown for my computer, so I added it to the dictionary. But I said to myself that this term is so unpopular, just as the practice of intergenerational dialog itself.

From the article you will learn more about "Bridges together" - a non-profit organization from the US, which activities are dedicated to the improvement of the intergenerational connections.

From the article:

"The Bridges Program Curricula Suite is based on human development theories and best practices from the field; designed to spark meaningful conversation between both groups; and built around theme-based small group work. Although it is typically based in schools and at senior centers, it also runs in libraries, community centers, afterschool programs, and senior housing. Implementing the programs is an intergenerational leadership team comprised of representatives from a youth organization, such as a school, and a senior organization."

And a personal sharing from a participant in this program:
"Although I have always interacted well with older adults, I truly didn’t expect it to have such a great impact on my life."

In two new papers, we describe a new family of approaches for imagination-based planning. We also introduce architectures which provide new ways for agents to learn and construct plans to maximise the efficiency of a task. These architectures are efficient, robust to complex and imperfect models, and can adopt flexible strategies for exploiting their imagination.

With the increasing life expectancy, we start asking more often how we'll grow old, and what we'll do with our lives. The critical conditions for our successful ageing is to take care of our health and to prevent the chronic diseases. #longevity #aging #health
A changing society: 100 is the new 80

When it comes to aging successfully and remaining in good health, are centenarians the perfect role models? When it comes to aging successfully and remaining in good health, are centenarians the perfect role models? Or is extreme age inextricably linked with increasing levels of illness? Which diseases most commonly affect people who fail to reach the 100-year mark? Researchers from Charité -- Universitätsmedizin Berlin have been studying illness trajectories in centenarians during the final years of their lives.

Tragedy in Yemen.
The media does not cover much of what is happening there.
#Yemen: "Children describing the sounds bombs make as they fall. Streets covered with rotting garbage. Doctors and nurses who have gone months without pay, at hospitals struggling to care for an influx of cholera patients and malnourished infants.

That’s what FRONTLINE filmmaker Martin Smith and his team witnessed in May when they became the only foreign journalists given permission to enter Yemen, the country that’s home to what the United Nations recently called the “largest humanitarian crisis” in the world.

“People are not seeing what’s going on. We’re talking thousands of civilian dead,” Smith says in Inside Yemen, a documentary short released today by FRONTLINE."
