The wind whispered to itself over and over again, amidst the battle. Perhaps it was telling the trees of things to come.

Swords of allies and enemies alike, dropped from their hands as fear sank over the valley and the sun began to drop below the mountain's silhouette. The allied men stricken with fear scrambled over the rocky terrain towards their encampment, as their enemy stood still as poppets held tightly in the hands of those terrible forest men. The curse had its hold upon the forms of the unfortunate. From warriors, ravens grew, squawking and crying out in the same breath, the screams of thousands were heard by their enemies, as gentle flesh ripped apart revealing shiny scarlet plumage the colour of fresh blood, and their eyes became black unfeeling marbles. Their leader sharply inhaled, overwhelmed, and fell to his knees, dropping his sword at the feet of the cloaked men. Gritting his teeth and screaming, he began writhing and cursing the unholy enemy as an inky darkness consumed him. It swam through his veins, lingering cold and suffocating any goodness that had ever been lit in his now damned eyes, turning him from man to monster in a long and painful moment. He rose, reborn. The former leader, baptized in deep magic, cursed forever to be the bane of good men everywhere.

"That is why we light candles on the day of Bloodharvest, to honor the humanity lost in our former ally and neighbor, who became our great enemy, and to remind us of the darkness of the magic in our land."
