Descent
the wide view - Castle Rock

Following on from the previous image, this one is a super wide panorama view, basically the view you get before descending down towards Castle Rock, you can see the path on the right there, what you can't see is the sheer drop off to the right and to the left :)

This view represents nearly a 180 degree field of view.

9 shot panorama (vertical frames) using gerry's special pano rig :)
D750 coupled with Nikkor 16-35 f4 @ 16mm
Aperture: f16 and Shutter Speed: 2s
ISO: 100
Out front: Lee Graduated Filter 0.9x and Hoya Circular Polariser

Narrowneck - Castlerock

Someone told me I should start taking my photography serious :) So I took that advice on board and have decided its best if I wear pants when shooting now :) , now don't take that outta context, i'm talking about long pants rather than just shorts which are pretty well a staple for me year round, irrespective of location :) however, no more shorts for me and in this case, I am kinda glad, its not the cold that bothers me (you don't lose much heat outta skinny sticks you know..), but more the harsh shrub which for the first few metres on the track here would be a rather nice exfoliation treatment but after that probably more like walking against 40 grit sandpaper :) hence long pants are good :)

For the last few years I have photographed the Sydney CBD Anzac march on April 25th, however this year I needed a break from the crowds and people so I took myself off to the Blue mountains at a suitably ungodly hour to avoid traffic and people :) worked nicely.

I have been eyeing off this spot on a little spur off the narrowneck ridge near Katoomba which is part of the walk to Castle rock, I have plans to take a few images of the milkway here but so far the weather has out smarted me so thats gonna probably wait another month at least . The walk here is pretty mild, however the track does get fairly tight and shrubby which is not overly pleasant when walking in pitch blackness battling of little spiders and dodging low branches (for me anyways), that said, it was mozzie and snake free for the most part which counts for alot in my books.

The sunrise was not too shabby either and there was even a bit of fog rolling around in the valleys below which when the wind came up later in the morning ebbed and flowed up and down the valley walls, pretty cool.

So here ya go, this is me taking it serious, pants and all.

BTW, NPWS, frogs and logs department, Office of heritage or whatever they are called today, you gotta fill the potholes and ruts in this road :)

Its a world of death out there...
and predators waiting behind every corner

Whats really cool about this shot, which is another 3 shot macro panorama, is that with even realising it, I captured two, possible more unrequested models, one of which is dead.

Can you spot them ?

Look directly below the fungi, which by the way, how awesome is this little guy perch on a the trunk of fern punching a line to freedom :) Anyway, looking below the fungi in the cool mossy stuff, you can see a silvery insect, a dead grasshopper. Looking over on the far right (and you really need to see this on the full res version - zoom on in :) ) that blurry brown dot, that a spider, possibly the predator to this grasshopper...and whats that hiding behind the bark on the left....

A little detail on how this image is created.

The image is a the stitch of three landscape orientation images, the images are taken on a tripod (upside down to get low enough - the sirui (N2204X) tripods and not real good for macro, my old manfrotto 190xprob is much better since it's centre column can be orientated horizontally).
The scene is lit with a SB600 flash and a white diffuser screen placed between the flash and the fungi. The position of the flash/light source is super important since it can result in a dynamic 3d scene that pops off the screen or a dead pan flat image when placed in the wrong spot. In this case, the light source is low and to the right of the frame, basically the flash was on the ground.

EXIF love:

Panoramic view

Look I'll make it all manageable :)

This little red fungi had so much lovely green stuff (technical term for some kinda green mossy stuff - clearly I am not a botanist :) ) That it just had to be taken with a wide view to show it off, hence the panoramic view :) 3 shots stitched together.

This fungi has had some local take a chomp outta it, clearly it was a bit slow on the red is poisonous thing I guess :)

Carved

ya gotta view this one large :)

So how long do ya reckon it takes water (mixed with a few rocks and sand) to carve out an alcove like this ?

I thought about it for a second then realised.. who gives a crap, it looks awesome and will definitely be the same well after I'm gone :)

Lone Kayaker

Thats probably enough for my jetty fix now :)

This guy turned up shortly after me, it was still pitch black at the time, but it did not stop him getting setup with his kayak and fishing, gear shortly after the first light came on and it was a very pleasant morning to be out, there was not a breath of wind, the mozzies were bearable and company was quiet :)

This is a 3 shot panorama with the middle frame capturing the Kayaker as we both stopped and watched the colours develop.

Sunset.. or was it Sunrise..

No comments on this one - I am tired of deleting spam comments, links and videos - having to do that means I can't respond to all those wonderful genuine people who do regularly comment on my images :(
