Cross posting a little rant I have about F2P games after playing a bunch of PvZ2.

TLDR, Games should have a 'No micro transaction notifications' option
Game developer rant on! Been playing a bunch of Plants vs Zombies 2 and really enjoying it.  It’s a ‘Free-2-play’ game and bunch of reviews have positively reviewed it especially in the area of how the in-app purchases are...

Yeah, I agree that micro transaction games are problematic for kids to play on any platform. Maybe the parenting lesson is to tell your kid, "Beat that level without help, and I'll pay YOU $X instead." Motivate them to learn, focus, and have patience.

Thinking back to my own experience, when I asked my parents to buy a game outside of holidays they'd tell me to finish the previous game first. This lead to me mastering many Nintendo-hard games. And they never once let me call the Nintendo Game Councilor Hotline. By the time strategy guides became more common I had to buy them with my own money.

I still see the iPad as a sheek off-limits gadget though. Kids may may be able to navigate it, but cannot comprehend the difference between it and a rough-houseable toy.

Steve Jobs really is a visionary, also he hasn't changed much since 1987 (Sans his hair)
Fun little Read
In 1987, a young, brash Steve Jobs sat down with the world's preeminent gentleman's magazine. With yesterday's launch of iPlayboy, an editorialized guide to Heff's archives, we can take a look inside ...

As Greg would say: "c0rrect". The Patent system is horribly broken; as most things in the world are.

Just finished playing Brothers: A tale of two sons on Steam.  Has a very strong Ico / SotC vibe to it.  Would highly recommend!  It's a shorter game (~3hrs) so everyone should be able to give it a play.  Nicole really enjoyed watching it.

I'm such a nerd, spent my Sunday watching other people play video games over the internet. But it was awesome

I've been watching a bunch of SF4 / MvC3 whenever there's a tourny going. Was watching a bunch of SC2 when I was still playing that. I watch far more then I play and I sorta wish there was an easy way to get the streams going on the TV as background entertainment. But anywho, Evo 2011 was pretty awesome to watch

It's not that crazy of a comparison. NCSoft wanted a microtransaction RPG to take off in the states (a completely untapped market), and they got it in acquiring ArenaNet. EA wants to take over the casual space to compete against Zynga, and who better than PopCap? It's simply about publishers wanting to expand where there's money to be made, and studios with lofty goals finding the right corporate overlords who are going to just let them "do their thing".
