The food was excellent, expensive but excellent. The atmosphere was great. You are bound to spot a few hooker or two but classy hooker so that can be overlooked.

Expensive and impersonal and loud and huge and oversized and I don't care how good the food is, this is not dining in an upscale restaurant under abandonded train tracks (the highline), it's a loud cacaphony of noise of poseurs and stock brokers who want big ol' plates of italian food and get drunk and louder as the meal goes on. No thanks, I'll pass.

I went to Del Posto with my wife for our anniversary. It was phenomenal! The atmosphere was fantastic with the perfect combination of lighting and high ceilings to make it feel special. It is a dressy location, all the men were wearing jackets and most were wearing ties (me included). I like to go to a place like this now and then to give me an excuse to be fancy. The service was exceptional and the waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the cuisine. We ended up doing the five course tasting menu and had champagne by the glass. Everything was incredibly delicious. The 100 layer lasagna is totally worth it, believe the hype! We finished the meal with coffee and dessert and after we paid they left us with two small boxes of cookies to take home with us. A nice touch to end the evening out.

This was a truly uniquely wonderful dining experience. The ambience is rich and gracious with finely paneled walls and spacious seating. Having elected the 5 course tasting menu provided each of the four guests at our table with individualized appetizers and entrees while also providing us an opportunity to share selected items on the menu. Every preparation was uniquely prepared and delicious. The service was impeccable with waiters and bus boys keeping the table clear, clean and staying unnoticed( the latter a trait that has been lost in most US restaurants ). All the while courses were served in properly timed sequence simultaneously to all. The wine list is literally a travelogue of Italian wineries. We had both a red and white Bastianich ( the proprietor's own winery ) selection and found them equally unique and flavorful. In fact the white compares favorable to the finest French Montrachets I've tasted. The red was a rich and full bodied incomparable Bordeaux that I enjoyed immensely. While dining at Del Posto is not an inexpensive affair, I found the wines reasonably priced for their quality. By the way, the desert s are equally unique and prepared to perfection. Even the peppermint tea I ordered was freshly brewed in a glass teapot at my table. If you're going to go for a 5 star dining experience I would recommend Del Posto highly. It puts most of the midtown Michelin rated eateries to shame.

I dined at Del Posto on a Monday night - it was pleasantly full, and the food and service were simply second to none. Two of our party didn't drink - so we weren't splashing out on wine, and we simply had the a la carte menu. In many restaurants, when they staff realise your bill isn't going to be huge, the service goes downhill - not here. We were treated like royalty - with attentive but unfussy service and pleasant surprises like a little gift of peti fours at the end. And the food - well it was simply wonderful. The little treats at the start were so good we wanted to order more, the bread and butter even felt special, and our mains and puddings were just perfect. I can't wait to go back.

Here's the problem. Staff is trained to sell the $125 and $145 full dinners and menus make it hard to order a la carte as they aren't priced that way. However, appetizers are $30, first courses $35, entrees $45 plus up charges. Once you get this out of the way, you can order an appetizer and an entree for a "reasonable price" and thoroughly enjoy the restaurant. Money is an issue here and it's inelegant going through this. Downstairs is much nicer than upstairs as ceiling upstairs is too low. Dale likes Del Posto because they have great gluten free pastas that they make in house. I really don't.
