Internet Outage - Prairie Mountain HS and PSSD Bus Garage.

Due to the power outage that happened outside of Somerset yesterday morning, we have lost our wireless link from our Kingsey repeater to Somerset school. Unfortunately the equipment that was damaged isn't something we can keep on hand and parts have been ordered and are scheduled to be here by the end of the week - fingers crossed.

This will affect Internet and IITV for Prairie Mountain HS and Internet and Phones for the bus garage.

Hi Everyone!

I want to take some time to address some of the concerns that we have been forwarded regarding the new HP M880 copiers. I would like to begin with some back story to the approach we took to find the right company to replace our existing fleet.

When we spec'd the new HP copiers we had a few things in mind to try to make day-to-day operations easier:
- enhanced scan to email features to make sending documents across the division much simpler and stay in tune with divisional goals to reduce print.
- increased accessibility from multiple devices (Windows, Chromebooks, iPads and mobile devices) to ease the transition towards Staff only printing.
- ability to print to any copier in a secure manner from within or outside of our division network.
- securing our print fleet to meet Provincial Education best practices (ID cards) keeping security VS convenience in mind.

With these main goals laid out, we reviewed 4 separate copiers to see who could accommodate the you, the Educator, the best. After careful review, we decided to go with HP as they could cover our needs out of the gate and they have the ability to be upgraded throughout the contract to incorporate any new tech that may come around the corner - allowing us to be more fluid in our print solution for the duration of our contract.

Since we deployed the copiers in April, we have seen some considerable inconsistency with print / copy speeds across many of the devices and want to assure you all that we are diligently working with HP to isolate and resolve the problems that are being noted.

Nathan and Sandy spent a good portion of last week troubleshooting and trying to paint a clear picture as to what the problems were and which devices were affected. They ran multiple tests on 3 random M880's across the division coming up with very different results regarding print / copy speeds for both simplex vs duplex, creating jobs via the document feeder vs the copy bed, and print jobs from a cabled vs wireless device.

Compared to our previous Konica Minolta copiers, the new M880's are spec'd at the same speed regarding PPM (pages per minute) and IPM (images per minute) - which is 45 ppm/ipm. After running tests Thursday and Friday, we were able to determine that the new copiers were not meeting these speeds but coming in around 31.5 - 32 ppm/ipm on average. This was quite a shock to us as the we brought in demo units of all the models we purchased to test and they all met the specs that we had requested. As mentioned before, we have been working with HP to correct this by upgrading firmware, doing partial and full resets and then re-running the tests each time. See below for the results of our tests as well as our results from the Konica's for reference:

These are the results for KM C452

Job 1
- 10 copies, 2 pages, single sided, stapled --00:38.31 - 10 copies, 2 pages, duplexed, stapled --01:13.70

Job 2
- 20 copies, 5 pages, single sided, stapled --02:25.07 - 20 copies, 5 pages, duplexed, stapled --05:42.68

Job 3
- 20 copies, 10 pages, single sided, stapled --04:37.94 - 20 copies, 10 pages, duplexed, stapled --09:18.06

These are the results for Holland's HP M880

Job 1
- 10 copies, 2 pages, single sided, stapled --01:00.77 - 10 copies, 2 pages, duplexed, stapled --01:26.73

Job 2
- 20 copies, 5 pages, single sided, stapled --03:30.98 -(paused for 32.01 seconds, copy 11 of 20)
- 20 copies, 5 pages, duplexed, stapled --06:23.69 -(paused for 34.42 seconds, copy 6 of 20. Also paused for 33.18 seconds, copy 15 of 20)

Job 3
- 20 copies, 10 pages, single sided, stapled --05:56.72 -(paused at 01:57 for 58.04 seconds, copy 7 of 20)
- 20 copies, 10 pages, duplexed, stapled --14:59.22 -(had numerous 5-10 second pauses throughout job, usually after 5-6 pages)

As you can see, the pauses that we are noticing as well as not reaching the specified pages per minute rating are causing significant increases in job time (and some unnecessary grey hairs). We have expedited these issues with HP and as of Thursday they have confirmed that we will have a HP Badged Tech come to our division tomorrow AM (May 9) to find a solution. We will begin in Cartwright School first thing Monday morning and carry on from there.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that these issues have caused and will do our best to resolve this as soon as we possible can. If you have any questions please feel free contact me. I will be giving updates regarding what we find through the week via Google+.
