I love this idea -- How one family transitions their kids from receiving from Santa to becoming Santas. It leads to an unfolding series of good deeds and holiday spirit.

Kindness starts with us!

If you ask me, our family’s biggest risk on Halloween is that our son Jack trips over whatever costume my wife made for him while he runs from house to house. If you ask Jack, he’d probably say his biggest risk is that we run into friends and stop for a laugh or beer, slowing […]

At our first Little League practice (this week) we asked our team of 7-8 year olds if they knew the 5 fundamentals of baseball. They enthusiastically raised their hands and told us: 1) Have fun 2) Try your hardest 3) Don’t get upset if you lose 4) Be kind . . . and things like […]

Excellent idea to copy in your workplace (and probably at home, too)
Seer Interactive has a display of thank you cards in their lobby. Any employee or visitor can take a card and a postage stamp. As founder Wil Reynolds said when he was giving my class a tour of his office, “We want everyone to be able to send a thank you note anytime. If your […]

Charles and Shirley White worked for the Salvation Army in a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping Mall. They provided clothing and toys for children at Christmas time. The Whites listened to the Christmas wishes of children who might not otherwise get gifts. Then the couple wrote the kids’ gift wishes on cards that featured angels. The cards […]

Nicole started this nonprofit at 16. Paying it forward for kids in need!
“When a kid is in the hospital or homeless shelter and has a teddy bear — something special to hold onto and sleep with — it makes the experience calmer,” Nicole Javorsky said. “A lot of kids in hospitals or homeless shelters don’t have people who would give them a teddy bear, and we want […]

A role model for the kids he mentors and for all of us!
Big Brother of the Century award winner, Tom McElvogue, has been a mentor to many kids over the years. Even as a busy executive and father, he has always had time to make a difference as a mentor. Here’s a great anecdote that Tom shared when he received his Big Brother of the Century award […]

I've been working out here for almost a year. I've trained many places before, and I think the workout I do with the personal trainers at Main Line Health and Fitness is the best I've ever done. I asked for a tough workout, and I get it. The equipment they have is fantastic -- negative training makes a workout twice as hard. The philosophy comes from Roger, the owner, who knows what he's doing. I feel lucky to have found them.
