So. I actually really like it when the servers don't overwhelm you and interrupt your dinner every 30 seconds. The staff are always friendly without being overbearing and the food is amazing. I order the chicken Milanese pretty much every time to split with my lady and we usually get another main dish to try out. The fried mozz is yummy. everything always tastes fresh, right down to the root beer! I normally don't write reviews, but I got a little sad when I saw one of our favorite places is getting pooped on by everyone and I'm really not sure why. One piece of advice. don't sit in the McHugh booth. that's our favorite and we would like you to leave it for us :)

Hi Kenneth, thank you so much for the kind words and the pat on the back. It means a lot. We really appreciate people taking time out of their busy day to say nice things. We look forward to seeing you in the McHugh booth soon!!

The food was really much better than I expected it to be. I am a meatball Sub Snob and their's was one of the best I have ever had. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food, portions were plentiful, and staff was friendly. They even had the courtesy to securely return my credit card to me which was accidentally left at the table (too many draft beers?). Highly recommend.

My Family & I went to First & Last, yesterday... So Disappointed....We haven't been there in awhile but it was my Son's birthday, and he wanted Chicken Parmigiana . My wife asked the , we assume, manager , if they sing Happy Birthday and he said yes...So he said he would tell our waitress... So we waited a bit and got seated, but did not see a waitress for a long time... A server gave us some bread with counted 4 pieces, one each...no oil...Finally the waitress came, and we asked for oil ,first off to enjoy our one piece of bread. She brought it back and she said she had to pour it on our plates...When we were here before, it was always left on the table...I know times are tough, but I guess not a good sign, when the oil bottles need to be poured on your dish...Then when we were ready to order, the waitress commented on everything we ordered...She told me I was playing it really safe by ordering Spaghetti and Meatballs !!! Ok, guess the waitress should of just ordered for us...We had steamers for appetizers, and they were so so small, barely even eatable...My wife used to always get some pasta with her eggplant, but we were told you have to pay for it now...My other son's pizza was so well done and cold.. So we got the check, and we were waiting for the waitresses regarding the Happy Birthday, but after awhile no one came and frustrated ,we left...My Wife said to this we assume, Manager, about the Happy Birthday, and he replied, "I told the waitress".. We told him how unhappy we were, and he just took our money to pay the bill and he never asked what happened or why we were unhappy..... That was pretty much the last time for us!!! There are too many great restaurants out there, that we visit, where we always come out very happy and extremely satisfied... Really appreciate those restaurants now ,after this experience ..............

The service was TERRIBLE! Our waitress never told us her name, she didn't smile ONCE, we had to flag her down for refills, she practically threw them at us, she never asked if our food was ok, she spoke to us rarely and NEVER smiled. She didn't do her job AT ALL! We had a 60$ bill and she treated us like crap! The food wasn't even that great for the price! I would never go here again in fear of having LINDA again (I found her name on the receipt). Gave her a 9% tip and that was generous.

Eaten here twice in the past month. First time Service was poor (Waited more than 20 minutes before we were even asked about drinks). Food was not on par with Hartford location or even previous visits to Middletown. We chalked it up to a new waiter and a busy night. Went back a few weeks later and same issues. Waiters/waitresses talking and milling around in back, long waits for service. Food was average at best. Management appears to have changed recently and it just has gone down hill. Even bar service was sub-par. Very disappointed. This used to be one of our favorites. I guess we'll head down main street to Krust or Esca now. I won't be going back anytime soon.

Hi Steffany, I am sorry to hear you had a poor experience at the tavern. I really appreciate you letting us know. I know your visit was a few months ago, but I can assure you we have addresses many of your concerns. We have since made many enhancements to our service and menu. As a best practice, it's really helpful for us if we are alerted to problems when the customers are in the restaurant. This way we can address the problem in real-time and help to make your experience an enjoyable one. Hopefully you will give us another try in the future.

Second experience... Just as bad as the first... First time was kitchen issues with food arriving at different times. This is a rookie mistake as far as restaurants go. The second time was a tap that did not get changes for 20 minutes.

Great Sunday morning brunch... We usually stop in Sunday mornings for mimosa/bloody Mary. The brunch bartender loves her job, has great stories.

I brought my daughter and her friends and family here for her birthday celebration today. I called yesterday to order the food. Today, I called to delay the reservation by 15 minutes because we were stuck in traffic. That was no problem. When we arrived, we enjoyed our meal one step at a time, and everything was done to perfection. We had pizza and salad, and the specialty pizzas were superb. So were the plain cheese pizzas. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was great. I made the reservation in the first place because my daughter had loved the pizza we had there in the summer of 2009. So worth the one-hour trip!
