Little pricey, but lovely decor, with such little details to make you feel like it's closer to the 20s than today, including the tiled walls, mirrors, music, and the bathroom. The ladies' bathroom is worth the trip upstairs. Aside from decor, the Vesper I had, first time trying it too, was lovely. It had the perfect amount of lemon added as a literal decorative twist, and was strong enough to make me feel it was actually worth those $12 for a cocktail.

Omg 5 stars for luncheon lunacy alone. Beyond that it's really a cute place with great service. Can't see the kitchen which is a slight negative - seeing the bartender go back there to get dishes is insane. That guy works so hard.

My boyfriend brought me here for a birthday lunch, on a Monday. The bartender / server was nothing but exciting and attentive. He made a great cocktail and an even better impression. Not only was the atmosphere unique and welcoming but the food was fantastic. This will definitely become a new staple in my Philly recommendations.

Brought my girlfriend for our anniversary...Simply fantastic. Our server was extremely kind, and was speedy in taking our order. Both of us had the Lamb Burger, and we were very pleased. Topped off with a great ambiance, Sassafras is an excellent choice to dine during your time in Old City, Philly.

Fantastic mixologists there. The drink was sort of expensive but strong and really well made; they take their time making them. The whole place has a great speakeasy-style feel.

It's my neighborhood bar. Low-key place with yummy burgers that can be made from beef, bison, and lamb just to name a few. Fries also hit the spot. They make their own house ketchup which is the old-fashioned runny kind, instead of the Heinz we're all used to.

Great cocktails and great 40's-style decor (not one of those undercooked and overdone speakeasies). The food looked delicious, although we didn't order any. My only complaint is that the music was ridiculously loud for the tiny space.

Sasafras is the only reason to go to 2nd Street. In my opinion, Neil is the best bartender in Philadelphia. Sasafras has a vibe about it that feels as though you've gone back to a simpler time, a place where the drinks are strong, and your patronage means something. Highly recommend!
