Our German Short Haired Pointer mix cut her achilles tendon in February. As we were out of town it was not diagnosed and surgery was not performed for four weeks. By the time she had surgery the injury was acute, they needed to remove 4cm of scare tissue in order to resection the tendon. The surgeon did a great job, Dr. Ullman from Sage Veterinary Clinic in San Mateo, CA, but she feared Kona would always have a limp and a high risk of reinjury. Enter Sage veterinary's physical therapists Jenny, Sara and Jill and team at OrthoPets. 6 weeks after surgery Kona's cast was replaced by a custom made Tarsus brace from OrthoPets. The brace allowed the therapists to slowly add range of movement so the tendon could heal and stretch without reinjury. Now after 7 months Kona is back to almost normal, the brace has been converted to use for sports and Kona walks and runs and jumps as well as she ever did. No limp, no loss of strength. Today she graduated from physical therapy and is looking great! Throughout the process OrthoPets acted like Kona was their patient even though she was a thousand miles away. Silver, our case manager, was always available to help and worked closely with Sage to ensure the brace fit, worked correctly and was adjusted properly over time. Service was always friendly, efficient and most importantly focused on Kona's wellbeing above all else.
