The folks there are very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of bikes. The only problem is the location. The drivers in Petaluma are so rude! Even when I tried to walk my bike across the street at a crosswalk to get to a safe neighborhood it was dangerous. Even parking on the street and getting out into traffic is a hazard. The location makes shopping there too difficult!

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They helped us find exactly the mountain bike we were looking for while keeping in mind the budget we had available, and made sure that we went home with all of the gear we would need. We have been very happy with our purchase, and they are very accessible if we need anything. I highly recommend them :)

I showed up with an bicycle needing a new tubes and new tires. I took the new parts home to install, but found that the tires were one size too small. When I went back, the technician apologized for his mistake, found the correct parts, and then insisted on installing everything free of charge. He even gave the bike a general tune up, checking the brakes, tightening the gear shifters and letting me know that everything was working properly. The service was good, the workmanship was good, the parts selection was good, and the prices seemed good to me. I will definitely revisit this shop in the future.

Edit: Sonoma Bicycle Company was sold to Mike's Bikes. Wonderfully, Mike's Bikes is honoring the extended warranty I purchased from Sonoma Bicycle Company. Just got two flats fixed and a full tune up, free labor and $23 for parts. Still delighted! I shopped carefully for a bike store, and for a bike, and am really happy that I chose Sonoma Bicycle Company in my home town of Petaluma. Prices are reasonable, service is great, staff are very experienced, friendly and diligent. I bought an extended warranty for my bike ($100 for 5 years unlimited tuneups and free labor), and they encourage bringing the bike in for adjustments, etc. Today I took the bike in to have the derailleurs adjusted and I was very impressed--the staff worked and worked at it, couldn't get it exactly to their liking, called in other staff to consult. They finally ordered a part, and later installed it (no charge for part of labor). I really appreciate their high standards. They also have a store in Santa Rosa, and perhaps in other Sonoma County locations. Highly recommended.

Got a flat tire on your Stump jumper? Need a derailleur adjust to use all your gears? Jeff and the staff have got you covered. Having used the bike repair shop and retail portion of this shop have earned them my allegiance for future bike needs. Combine that with their commitment to community health ( Slo Rides in the summer) and willingness to go the extra mile in repairing has earned Sonoma County Bike shop 5 stars. And it helps to have a cruiser bike raffle each SloRide to gather town interest: These guys are really interested in getting people on bikes and out of cars one at a time.

My girlfriend and I rented bikes at Mikes Bikes while we were on vacation near Petaluma. The store was neat, merchandise was displayed nicely and they had a good selection of bikes and accessories. Since we were unfamiliar with the area, one of the employees behind the counter (John?) helped us map out a course for our ride. The MOST impressive thing for us was a sales employee by the name of Greg. He gave us a lot of personal attention helping adjust our bikes, making sure we had bottles, tools, sunscreen and everything we needed. He even helped us install a bike rack and secure the bikes on our rental car. Greg bent over backwards to help us with everything we could possibly need. Great job!

I've been in here a few times now after moving back to town. Each time I've been in they have been out of what I was looking for, first just tubes, then tires, then a rear rack. But in the case of the tire they more than made up for it by discounting a more expensive option so that it was still in my price range. I just got back from upgrading to clipless pedals. They were happy to sell me the display models. Again, out of what I was looking for (almost). They helped me find a great pair of shoes that fit my price range from their limited but adequate selection. They then installed the pedals on my bike and cleats on the shoes right there. In the end I paid no more than I would have at any online store, I checked prices before going over there, and they installed it all for free. In conclusion, the only downside to this place seems to be some stocking issues, which is probably only temporary as the busy season hits, and no store wants to overstock during a recession. They more than make up for it with very helpful and willing staff. In every one of the other bike shops in the area they have tried to up-sell me, sometimes successfully into something I don't need. Not once has that been the case here. If your in the area, this is the bike shop to go to!
