Drink specials are good, the food is only okay. It's tex-mex, so that means its mexican food altered beyond recognition to suite american tongues, so mild flavors with lots of dull, fatty, creamy, greasy blendings and sauces. Ugh, its a pain to describe tex-mex. If you like that sort of thing, you'll like this place.

Interior noise levels push 90-95 db. They turn the music up to dance club levels so the 80 people in the room end up talking louder to compensate. If they turned it down like 40% it would still be loud music but the whole room wouldn't need to shout. Easily solved problem. Apparently they think people enjoy shouting and that it creates "atmosphere".

Went for happy hour after work. Usually go to the shadyside location and the difference was dramatic. No fajitas on the menu, inattentive staff and the place was DARK as a cave. At least it was happy hour.

The Original Mad Mex, found deep in the heart of Pittsburgh's South Oakland neighborhood. Frequented by students because of their great happy hour specials that include half off draft beer and wings. Dark and not very large, it is best to get here early if you would like a seat at the bar.
