Union Square Cafe might be deemed the birthplace of the now-renowned Union Square Hospitality Group. Despite the passage of time, the venue is still one of the foundations in NYC's dining scene, and rightly so. Come for brunch when both floors of the restaurant are filled with light and a buzzy ambiance is present throughout. The USC Burger, topped with crisp bacon and melted cheddar, is one of the better burgers you'll find in the city, and a must-order.

Does not match its reputation. While waiting for our friends my girlfriend and I sat at the bar. It took the bartender almost ten minutes to stop chatting with is buddy and take our drink order, by the time he got back with the drinks our friends already arrived and we proceeded to get a table. The waitress was pleasant and helpful but the food was no better to what you can get at any half decent place for much lower price. Final verdict - the place is highly overrated.

Going to Union Square after a several year hiatus is akin to attending a much-anticipated reunion. Low key but always elegant, it's welcoming from the time one enters. The other diners are animated and happy looking--and for good reason. The food is inventive without being over the top, service is top drawer and the wine list does reveal some bargains. One leaves content regardless of the tab.

Very good food, service and ambience. A haven on a cold rainy Saturday noon. Glad we made reservations as Union Square Café was full. Bar also looked active.

Union Square Cafe is a upscale dining experience that I personally hope to experience again soon! My girlfriend and I recently had the benefit to attend on my most recent visit to her in NYC. The cafe is a delightful quaint restaurant with a semi-subterrestrial dining room with hardwood floors and white brick walls the food is fantastic and waiters attentive. We ordered a couple "snack" sized portions to begin our meal and were delightfully comped an appetizer by our waiter for simply "being nice" because we had discussed our options of appetizer versus snacks. We decided snacks because we wanted to experience more of the menu [two snacks equal about 1 appetizer]. We ordered cocktails that were delicious, our main entrees were scrumptious and all around our experience was great. It was a bit pricey but they make no attempt to hide that they are a fine dining restaurant and we came prepared for the bill.

Stunning meal there. Went by myself for lunch. The waitress seated me in a large table in the corner so I was comfortable despite the room being full. The service was fabulous and my meal was outstanding. I had beed carpacio to start and the tuna burger - both I would go back for!
