Introduction
I'm a Dutch guy born in 1974. Growing up I went from a dreamer to halfway mature. In 2002 I met my life partner and I'm living happily with hime ever since. I'm seconded at Stork Technical services since 2001.  Right now I'm pretty happy with where I'm at.

Just a few hours left and then 2011 is no more. Oh well 2012 is a new year, with new opportunities and new challenges.

It's Sunday again. I wonder why all the days in the weekend zip by and some work weeks look like they last a year. (To be honest, most work weeks zip by in a blink too.)

Christmas is a few weeks away. Looking forward to it. It makes the world a little brighter in the dead of winter.

Made the plunge today to use Gnome 3. I must say it is actually usable with the Mint Gnome Shell Extensions. If the applets ever make a come back, it could be my favorite new environment.

Too bad that the fglrx driver is giving you grief. I simply opted for the FOSS driver. Probably not as fully featured or as fast, but at least it works without artifacts.

I've considered KDE 4.x myself, but something about that environment rubs me the wrong way. Feature wise it is all there, but something about the rendering of the widgets makes me resent it. It somehow "feels plasticky". Yeah, I'm probably ready to be sectioned.

Gnome Shell itself is still a mess. It also is but a bleak reflection of Gnome 2 with the Mint Gnome Shell Extensions. On the other hand, Gnome 2 is dead and the Gnome 2 fork MATE has an uncertain future. Clement Lefebvre was brutally honest to point out that his best option forward was building MGSE on top of Gnome Shell. Since Mint has given me a very comfortable home after the Ubuntu "window buttons right" disaster, I'm willing to stick with Mint 12 Lisa to see where Clem can take his MGSE.

After all Clem really listened to his users and did a wonderful job with his extensions.
