We had dinner inside and it was full of baby fly's the service and food was not in relation with the price. They din't have any type of herbs to add to my olive oil. Good bread! Good Salad! Mediocre pork chops. The lady hostess was rude...

The food & the service was amazing. The beef tenderloin was tender & cooked to perfection. The only criticism I have is that the tables are very close together, and so I have to unfortunately hear the guy whinge next to me about the personality of scorpios.

We were looking for a nice Italian meal in Ballard before a movie. Volterra was nearly packed on a Friday night, but they had one table available for us. Volterra, how you disappoint me. Let me count the ways. 1) We were glad to get a table, but the hostess/greeter was glum and abrupt, distracted perhaps. No charisma. Not a good start. 2) We waited for at least five minutes before water or anything resembling service arrived. It was getting awkward because wait staff passed us by many times, seeming to avoid eye contact. 3) Finally, a barrel chested waiter injected himself into our conversation with the announcement that two of the specials were sold out. 4) He proceeded to wow us with his knowledge of Italian wine, but it seemed haughty and not helpful. He recommended an expensive bottle of something none of us had ever heard of. We opted to study the wine list a little longer. 5) The list is basically in Italian -- family and regional names of grapes, so good luck making a rational choice. 6) A second server joined us briefly to help us decide, and she said the $11-per-glass house Chianti was a "modern" interpretation and lots of people like it. We ordered it. Later, the original waiter brought us some bread or something, and we asked him what he thought she meant by "modern" in the context of chianti. He replied with something like, "I have no idea, and besides, it was her word, and it would be weird for me to explain what she might have meant." 7) The wine arrived, server #2 poured us each a glass. The wine was fine, but it was a stingy pour -- they could probably sell eight glasses per bottle. 8) When our food came out and barrel-chested server #1 heard we'd selected the chianti, he pursed his lips and looked down. No comment, visible disdain, like we'd really screwed up, and maybe insulted him. 9) One in our group had a chipped plate. No big deal if you're enjoying yourself otherwise, but it sorted of added one more feeling of negativity. 10) The food was okay. Nothing remarkable about it. My pasta dish was basically eight bits of stuffed tortellini in what could have been canned chicken broth. Bottom line - overpriced and lame. Gave us the discouraging sense that we'd wasted a Friday night.

Great Saturday afternoon lunch. Moderately priced, however, food was terrific. Service was friendly and attentive. Lamb Ragu was wonderful. Ballard area is a bee hive of activity. Come with no agenda and take in the scene.

Ignore the idiots whining about price and not knowing the Italian names for the wines, they can go eat at the Olive Garden. This place is not inexpensive, but then again the food is wonderful and pretty seasonal. I have been coming back here for years, it is still my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle. If they happen to have Braised Ox Tail on the menu, get it.

Volterra hasn't shared anything with you.

People are more likely to share with you if you add them to your circles.
